Dear Team,
We are currently implementing Margin Analysis in our SAP S/4HANA system. One of the challenges we’re facing is that for many manual GL postings, the profitability segment must be manually selected to ensure data flows into CO-PA. However, the user team is reluctant to perform this step consistently.
I attempted to automate the derivation using transaction code KEDR, but I was unable to find the field PAOBJNR (Profitability Segment) in the list of target fields. When I try to enter this field manually, the system throws an error.
Could you please advise if there are any SAP Notes or solutions available to enable this field for derivation?
Additionally, if you have encountered a similar issue in your experience, we would appreciate your insights.

As far as I know, KEDR will provide the rules for deriving characteristics rather than segment numbers. The system will then create or update a segment based on these characteristics, after which the number will be defined either within the COPA_OBJ number range (T code SNRO), or based on a combination of the characteristic values. (There are almost no user transactions that display the segment number.)
However, you could use a KEDR enhancement to identify or select a profitability segment model according to your criteria, read its derived characteristic values, and copy back all the necessary characteristics.
