Choose between Transportation Management (TM) and Direct Store Delivery (DSD) in S/4HANA 2020

Hi experts,

We want to know what's useful and right for domestic distribution in a wholesale company between Transportation Management (TM) and Direct Store Delivery (DSD). We know in TM there are a lot of features for transportation such as VSR optimization. Freight Order Management, Freight Settlement Document, Transportation Network Cockpit and so on. On the other hand in DSD there are features like Presales, Van Sales, Tour Planning and Execution, Route Accounting and Mobile app. Do they overlap? Can TM Cover DSD or not?

DSD and TM do not overlap as of now.

As far as I know we do not cover DSD in TM.

I believe there will be a new solution provided within S4 in combination with TM. It is called SAP Direct Distribution. It also offers Last Mile Delivery optimization, van sales and mobile app integration. Please contact your SAP rep. for more information.

Thank you for your information. It's very helpful. I have a more question, Where is the solution for sales representatives and presellers? like visit plan, take an order, and so on. I watched SAP S4 2020 release highlights. In that, the solution for presellers is in Last Mile Distribution but I feel LMD is more about the drivers and deliveries. have you any information about this?

Hi Ali,

I believe you gave the answer to this yourself (sorry for the late reply, btw!). SAP SDD consists of 3 part, according to the help files and one of the is LMD. This will allow you to manage this. See SAP Help:

SAP announced that S/4HANA 2021 version is now generally available as of October 13, 2021, and this version includes the long-waited Van Sales backbone in S/4HANA. For the ones who have been following up, the order-based last mile delivery had already been available, but for my regions - emerging markets such as GCC, Turkey, Iraq, and Pakistan, this version has completed the stack adding Direct Distribution for Van Sales - Direct Store Delivery, with additional functionality around Dynamic Visit Planning, Predictive Load & Order Proposal, Route Stock Management, intermediate settlement during visit runs, and a mobile adapter intended for 3rd party mobile solutions.

Well, i believe we need partners immediately to start working on implementation strategies.
