Can I change item category of KMAT line item in VA02

Hi,

We are working on S/4 Public cloud implementation. I know the item category for configurable materials is greyed out once, we enter the material details and we can't change the item category later on in VA02. 

Did anybody work on a scenario where one updates item category in VA02? If so, can it be done via extensibility option?

Could you please share more details about your business requirement to help us understand better? For example, what is the purpose of changing the item category after saving the sales order?

For configurable material, system will give an default item category after you enter the material number. If you want to use another item category which different with the system default, you can enter the item category first before you enter the material number, then you entered one will take the priority.

@viveksavant, @Nina_Kou, the scenario is we created a sales order assuming that we have a capacity to manufacture the product. However, after a period of time, we realize that we can't manufacture the product. In this case, we would like to procure the product from a vendor.

For this case, I would like to recommend you set the original item to rejected and created a new item for procurement.
