Can an alternative Payer have an alternative Payer?

I have 3 Customers which are migrated from an ECC-system:

KUNNR	KNRZA
0000000010	0000000050
0000000050	0000000100

I was able to convert Customer 50 and Customer 100 into a Business Partner. Customer 10 gets an error during Role creation:

• Data for business partner 10 contains errors
• Account 50 is itself an account with an alternative payer
• Alternative Payer: Plausibility check failed

Can an alternative Payer have an alternative Payer? Is that possible and if so, what could be the issue?
