Dear SAP staff

We would like to use the withholding tax management function in Japan, but it is not localized.
We found the following blog post, but if we follow the steps in the blog, will it work?
We are asking because we could not find the list of Tax Basic Countries listed in the prerequisites.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your query.

We’d like to clarify that Japan is one of the standard localized countries supported in SAP Business ByDesign. This means that withholding tax management is already available as part of the standard localization for Japan, and you do not need to follow the steps intended for non-localized countries.

The SAP Notes and blog post you referred to are applicable for countries that are not localized, so they are not necessary in your case.

If you are not seeing the relevant withholding tax options in your system, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist further.

Kindly have a look into the below SAP KBA:

About Standard Localization

In this version, SAP supports customers to run business with SAP Business ByDesign according to the international standards and local requirements. We support customers running their business in different countries/regions of the world by providing them with the legal standards and best practices of the country/region.

This includes the following features:

  • Functional Localization: Ensures that the solution enables legal compliance and follows the best practices.

  • Internationalization: Ensures that we support the specific local languages and cultures. Some of the generic features supported are Unicode, Currencies, Time Zones, Calendars, and Script Direction.

  • Translation: Ensures that we translate the SAP Business ByDesign solution into other languages, focusing on the user interface, and the documentation for certain languages.

Currently SAP provides standard localization for 21 countries as follows:
