BOM creation error

hi to all ,

when I m creating the BOM the system gives the error as "BOM can only be extended via Master recipe"

I request , its urgent, so pls help...

Hi

Please go to Master receipe C201 and create master receipe for the material (if not created already) otherwise go to C202 .

click material tab

click bom and define bom there.

Your customising settings does not allow to create bom separately to have the control on bom

I have gone through, as per ur instruction but i m not able to create new alternative BOM , by this method we can only extend the BOM.

pls suggest

Hi Amitabh,

You are getting error message as " BOM can only be extended via Master recipe" while creating BOM. This is because the the alternative BOM 1 must be created via Mster Recipe only. Hence SAP is not allowing you to create BOM through CS01 transaction.

For this issue first go to change recipe of this material (T code - C202) then go to the material tab....

Then create BOM through it.

You have to create BOM through Master Recipe only once first Alt. BOM is created through Master recipe.

Give points if useful.....

I have tried this option through C202 also , but there is no option to create the new alternative , instead it allows to extend the existing BOM.

and i want to create the new alternative BOM.

pls suggest

Hi Amitabh,

If you are using master receipe then as per standard SAP you change/update /extend the BOM only from master receipe .

Use C202 go to BOM tab and change as per your requiremnent.

Plz see in which receipe or receipe group is used this BOM go to that receipe by using c202 t code.

I agree to u for this point , but actually I want to create the alternative BOM and when I go to create mode CS01 , the system gives the error message as "bom can be extended via master recipe" ,

so what does that mean , is there any configuration setting or any material master or recipe setting ,

and this error is not appearing for my all materials in plant , but it appears for few of them,

so pls suggest,

Hi Amitabh,

I tried to create BOM in CS01 and system giving only warning message. Please confirm once again whether you are getting warning message or error message.

Hi,

If u are working in process industry avoid using T codes related to descrete. U use the T code C202 only for change.

If u want to create alternate BOM create it through c201 in production version enter alternate BOM 2.

Hi,

Try to Create the Master recipe with a Production version 2 and create the BOM in the Recipe.

If you are using the item category phantom materail (M), this error is appeared. if you can use the item category L. this is stock item.

For alternate BOM use C201 as I have already mentioned.

Dont try to use descrete code for PP-PI.

Hi Amitabh,

I am not sure why you are getting this error

try to change error msg to warnign msg

goto Production in spro in that choose basic data > BOM>general data--> change message type in that you put the msg number you are getting and make it warning msg> Check in when you get error msg wat is the msg in help menu

Whether you want to create a new Master recipe along with new Alt BOM 2 ? Or

You are going to use same old master recipe & new Alt BOM 2 ?

In both the cases your Prod Version will be 0002.

Please let me know the same.I'll advise accordingly.
