Automatic creation/assignment of batch during inbound delivery creation

I am looking for a soultion to create batch automatically (like Goods receipt how system proposing/populating batch number) during inbound delivery creation (VL31N). Going forward the inbound delivery creation will be automated through IDOC. I maintained the following settings,

1.) IMG-> Logistics general-> batch management-> batch number assignment-> activate internal batch number assignment

2.) IMG>Logistics Execution>Shipping>Deliveries>Define Batch Creation Controls in Inbound Deliveries

selected "Batch installation, classification, SLED check"

3.) Logistics general-> Batch management-> Batch determination and batch check-> Activate automatic batch determination in SD

here i selected item category "ELN" and "DIGN".

But still i am not getting batch number automatically while creating inbound delivery.

I want to have a standard SAP functionality to populate batch number during inbound delivery creation. Otherwise please let me know is there any function module available to populate batch number? We are on ECC 6.0

Thanks

Regards

this eventually means you have no internal number range assigned.

What happens if you leave the number empty and just continue?

i have assigned internal number ranges. if i continue then inbound delivery is getting created without batch .(batch field is blank)

your step 3 seems to be wrong. It is not abut batch determination, you have to care abut batch creation. Determination means looking for existing batches.

IMG-> Logistics general-> batch management-> Creation of New Batches > Define Batch Creation for Goods Movements

but this step "IMG-> Logistics general-> batch management-> Creation of New Batches > Define Batch Creation for Goods Movements" related to goods movement with respect to movement types (like 101, 201, etc.). but, my requirement is to create for inbound delivery. however i did the config settings as per above for the movement type 101.

I just did the setup in my IDES system, and I really did not more than just selected "Batch installation, classification, SLED check" for item category ELN.

On the pop-up I did not enter any batch, just entered a SLED and hit enter, SAP took me to the classification and after leaving it the batch number was there in the inbound delivery.

Hello Jurgen,

i proceeded with your way, after giving SLED i am getting below message and batch is not installing,

Can you suggest why it is appearing?

Batch installation for item 000001 not possible, error has occurred

Message no. VLMOVE025

is your material batch managed?

are you using warehouse management?

Try it again without specifying a storage location in the inbound delivery, just to see if the reaction is different.

my material is batch managed. now with storage location i am getting batch populating automatically after giving SLED. Great now i am getting batch. This is manual process of creating inbound delivery.

Now, to automate, means we are going to automate inbound delivery creation with respect to shipping notification. (through IDOC). Can you suggest what additional parameters we need to consider?

Thanks

I do not have an answer how it will be through IDocs.

As you have to active click the create batch button in VL31N, I guess this is not supported in the Idoc.

I know from initial inventory load by Idoc and Bapi method that it will not create batch records.

Instead you have to have an extra IDoc for Batch creation which need to be processed before the inventory movements are created. In the movement you then just mention the number.

I could imagine that it is similar in this case, but as initially said, I am not certain.

I read the whole story. I have the same question. I am using Embedded EWM and looking for automatic batch number creation when an Inbound delivery is created in VL31N.

Create IBD (VL31N) - Generate new batch number for batch managed material.

IBD is distributed to EWM -> Tcode : /SCWM/PRDI.

Create tasks of inbound delivery order -> Confirm tasks.

Putaway is completed, goods receipt is completed, storage bin is populated with the quant.

However, my ask is that the batch number should be SAP generated while doing inbound delivery creation in ERP.

is that possible?

try to use MSC1N create batch for your material and check whether it is successful.
