ATP Check with Batch Determination

Hi All

SAP S/4 HANA native ATP ( Advance ATP is not in scope ) determines the ATP check based on the actual availability of open stocks and expected future receipts. However, the issue is when a customer has specific dating requirements.

SAP S/4 HANA does not allow for ATP check in sales order across batches. Hence, in the sales order, if batch is ignored. the system may confirm the sales orders based on stocks across all the batches. However, since the delivery should only see the items that relevant based on batch determination condition records, we now have a situation where a sales order would be confirmed ( with a confirmation to the customer ), but the delivery would be partially proceed in the system based on allowed batches.

This leads to a customer dissatisfaction. Would appreciate inputs from fellow members on how this can be managed.

Hello @Rohit_Zalani

I think the only way to handle your requirement with classic ATP is to create a delivery immediately after sales order creation. Then you can determine batches in the delivery according to customer requirements and verify availability on batch level.

You could also try to determine a batch already for a sales order. However, only one batch can be determined for a sales order item. Therefore this approach won't work if a customer requirement needs more batches.

Thanks a lot for your inputs. That seems to be the only option unfortunately.

Hi,

I'm wondering why don't you use the batch determination at the sales order level.

You use batch determination for the sales order to find batches for set specifications. You can also reserve batches, requirements are transferred to material requirements planning (MRP) via sales orders.

In contrast to deliveries, batch splits are not possible for sales orders.

Hi Rupesh - The issue with sales order batch determination is, as you indicated, the limitation of being able to use a batch split. So, if there is a high order value environment, doing a manual search would not be optimal. However, what we would need to do, it seems, is that we have a modification in ATP check where the system finds all the possible batches, cumulates the qty across all the batches and then reserves the stock for the sales order. The challenge, though, as usual is that without a batch in the sales order, As you suggested, a reservation would need an enhancement to create one for the order in question and then release the same during delivery processing which could be a challenge as well. Would appreciate inputs on how else we could achieve the desired results.

That is one of the options, however the drawback is that only one batch can be specified on sales order item. Therefore a customer requirement has to be fulfilled from a single batch only.
