Asset Management- What is equipment category "S" and "X" in equipment creation?

Can you please tell me what is the equipment category " S - Customer Equipment" and "X - Equipment Services"

1. Equipment category 'S' is used for those equipments which we have sold to our customers and we are doing its servicing on as per schedule/ contract. For ex: We have sold out a crain to a customer. Now customer wants servicing after every 6 months and so on. Customer also wants servicing on the basis of distance covered. Then in our SAP system we will create it as a equipment with category 'S' and create a maintenance plan, measuring points and counter. We will monitor the performance of the crain in our SAP system and keep all historical data. Now if we have sold 1000 crains then we will have data of all our equipments. We can use for analysis purpose and further improvement in crain manufacturing. Functional location is not used with category 'S'.

2. Equipment category 'X' is used when equipment is used as a service. It is not assigned to any functional location.

Here is example of Equipment category - 'X' - Services.

Step 1: Suppose we are building a new factory and we are collaborating with other companies to achieve our goal. We have given contract to them to build some structure in factory.

Step 2: Now, we have some machines which are well maintained by our maintenance department such as Crains, fork lifts, extension board, welding machines etc.

Step 3: These machines can be given to other comapnies on rent as a service. For example carin can be given on the basis of distance travelled, extension boards and welding machines on per day basis and so no.

Step 4: We will be responsilbe for maintaining them therefore we will create them as equipment with category 'X'.

Step 5: we will put a serial number for tracking so that we can check which equipment is given to which customer.

Step 6: We can create preventive maintenance plan, measuring points and counter etc forthis equipment for maintenance.

Step 7: It has a close integration with SD module because we will charge from the other company. So, here the other company which is working with us in the factory building task become a customer for us.

I hope it is giving a good understand on equipment category 'X'.

If I'm not wrong, the differences between S and X is

1- If we sell the machine, we put category S

2- If we rent the machine, we put category X

right?
