ArchiveLink connection issue: ERROR => NiBufIConnect: non-buffered connect pending after 5000ms

Hi Community,

we have some strange connection issues with ArchiveLink.

The connection is working sometimes and sometimes not.

For example if I execute ArchiveLink test-program RSCMST sometimes I get error messages and sometimes not. The error message is always (can be seen in transaction SMICM):

On the right side of the following screenshot there is the result of ArchiveLink test-program RSCMST of the new S4 system and on the left side the old R3 system. So there seems to be a major issue. The new S4 system is hosted by an external company.

But a ping test showed no network problems.

From this perspective everything was ok.

Do you have a firewall (FW) between your SAP system and the archive server?
If yes, please check the firewall logs to see if there are any reasons for session rejections.
Additionally, try extending the icm/conn_timeout parameter from 5 seconds (default) to 15 seconds. This is a dynamic parameter, so only the ICM needs to be restarted.

Did you already look at a central KBA such as 2582112 - ERROR => NiBufIConnect: non-buffered connect pending after <timeout >ms or raise a case to support?

Do you have any Firewall or NAT or Load Balancer between you SAP server and OpenText?
If yes, please check how the source port is setup on SNAT (this is hint)

I guess my S4 system has not enough free ports...

You need to sniff the network traffic, compare the timestamps and find a reason as I did and works well.
