Hi Experts,
We are implementing SAP Service and Asset Manager. To use the map functionality, we can either use GIS or GEF. I understand that using GIS requires an ArcGIS license.
Is it possible to use GEF integration with SAP Service and Asset Manager to enable the map functionality without an ArcGIS license?
I came across the following thread regarding this, but it’s not clear to me. Could anyone please explain?

Hello @shirsendu_roy2 ,
Here you go:
To activate the map features in SSAM you are exploring two options:
1. ArcGIS: You will require ArcGIS license to integrate it with SSAM.
2. GEF: You will require license from ESRI ArcGIS to use it.
But why it is like this. let us understand that.
ESRI is a company and ArcGIS is their product. So when you buy ArcGIS license, actually you are buying ESRI product with license. So you do not have to buy ESRI license separately.
But when you buy SAP GEF, you need to buy ESRI ArcGIS license because SAP GEF integrates with ESRI’s ArcGIS platform to enable geospatial functionality. GEF is not a product of ESRI but integrates with ESRI. GEF is SAP's standard product so easy to integrate and manage with SSAM.
ESRI stands for : Environmental Systems Research Institute.
Ques. Is it possible to use GEF integration with SAP Service and Asset Manager to enable the map functionality without an ArcGIS license? -
Ans: Yes, but you need ESRI ArcGIS license.
Hope this helps you. Feel free to ask more.

Hi Vaibhav,
Thank you for the detailed explanation.
I raised a ticket in the SAP ME portal for support, and they replied that an ESRI ArcGIS license would be required.
Best regards,
