Hello Everyone,
I have huge dump of equipment's, either of them is available or lost as it was created long back ago.

I want to recount them and creates new equipment number, which requires Alpha numeric number ranges.

Ex. AB00000 to AB99999.

Because when I will plan for order or plan, I will sure that this has been created recently and I have to use it.

While I am searching an equipment I found a lot of equipment which is not important to me so I will select recently created with Alpha numeric number series.

Please give me you opinion

Hello @Prasenjit91 ,

Please put a deletion flag on the non-relevant equipment. Then enhance the drop-down list in the notification and order creation screen by removing the non-relevant equipment from drop down list. If you create a new one, then tracking the maintenance history will become a challenge for end users. Even if equipment is old, history is still relevant. Recreation of equipment with a different number range looks good, but from the viewpoint of tracking maintenance history, it is not a good idea.

Hello,

@Vaibhav-Mishra

Thank you for the suggestion.

I put a deletion flag to non relevant equipment still it shows in IH08. now I am trying to define new new numbering structure. the technicians assigned on the shop floor is not user friendly with SAP system so most of the time they choose wrong equipment number(probably they are confused). I agreed the equipment history required but not to the non relevant equipment in our case. the new alpha numeric number ranges will recount the existing equipment with its specification like make, model number, serial number, work center and all required fields.

Engg. Department is sub divided into following departments called as Work Center.

1. Mech 2. Elect 3. Instr. 4. Civil.

So I am trying to put as THM00000 to THM99999 for mechanical work center, THE00000 to THE99999 for electrical work center like wise.

Please let me know your insights on this topic.

Thank You,

Prasenjit

Did you define (OIEN) the range as

  • 'AB000000' to 'AB999999' and external
  • '0000000000AB000000' to '0000000000AB999999' and internal

Did you activate some BAdI to calculate the number?

Hello,

@RaymondGiuseppi

Please check below I had maintained (06 TH00000 to TH10000) intervals.

I need TH is to be prefix and 00000 to 10000 should be serially generates with respect to equipment creation.

I have not activated BADi.

Hello @Prasenjit91 ,

If the business is comfortable proceeding without considering equipment history and cost, then it should adopt a new number range.
