Adding Serialization Procedure in serial number profile

Dear Experts,

If we add this procedure HUSL ( Maintain serial number at Handling unit level in S/4 and communicate to EWM)  to an existing serial number profile,

can we still have stock and open deliveries in our EWM warehouse for products with this serial number profile? Or will we need to close all documents and remove stock in order for this procedure in a productive environment .

I know when  change the serial number tracked  at document level or stock level would definitely need to do above steps ( removing the inventory , close open documents )
