Hello Experts,
Our client is upgrading their ECC to S/4HANA and in the process enabled the extended material number functionality in S/4HANA. The material number length is now extended to CHAR 40.
As a result, the material length need to be extended to CHAR 40 in SAP BW system to match with S/4HANA material length. We are doing a PoC in BW sandbox and followed the process mentioned in SAP Note 2422224, Scenario 2 (<= 40 CHAR) to extend 0MATERIAL length in BW environment. Our BW is on version 750, SP 25. As per the note, the prior step is completed of maintaining table RSTMCNV in BW with same entry as table TMCNV in S/4HANA.
Next step we try to change the 0MATERIAL length from 18 to 40 and conversion exit from MATN1 to MATNB. While trying to activate the infoobject we are encountering lots of errors with structural change at field level for dependent tables as below. It shows around 197 tables have structural impact at field and need conversion, moreover 0MATERIAL is not getting activated. If we adjust the table structure via SE14 the material field is going back to CHAR 18.
Structure change at field level (convert table xxxxxxxx)
Can you please advise if anyone has successfully able to achieve the 0MATERIAL length changed to 40 with data available in the BW system. Please suggest any best approach to follow to convert material length in BW for this scenario.
Thanks

What is the state of the table in SE14? Does the dictionary and DB show any differences?
When you run the conversion in SE14 aren't there any errors/warnings?

Does the dictionary version have CHAR 40 or CHAR 18, before the conversion? What is the delta between active and new version?
