The RISE with SAP solution makes it easier for companies to move their business to the cloud and thus hedge against disruption. This means new tasks for consultants and developers.
By Vivaldo M. Ferreira, PhD
Time and again, we go through generational innovations with our ERP systems. There was the big switch from SAP R/3 software to SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC), then the move to SAP S/4HANA. These changes are necessary, but they are also challenging both for us as a company and for our ecosystem. With RISE with SAP, a new era is just beginning that holds great opportunities for our partners and customers. To provide you with the necessary expertise more easily, more quickly, and free of charge, we are now launching two new learning journeys. The first focuses on RISE with SAP as the modular, intelligent, and sustainable enterprise solution offering from SAP, and the second explains how to develop advanced extensions with SAP Cloud SDK. You can find them both on the
SAP Learning site.
SaaS is here to stay
Software as a service (SaaS) has gone from a promising concept to an industry standard in the course of just a few years. More and more companies are switching to these cloud-based solutions because they can be flexibly adapted to unique business needs and can result in a significantly lower total operating cost. Both are important prerequisites for constantly realigning one’s business model and preventing possible disruptions.
At SAP, we have had a cloud-based ERP software solution available since 2015 in the form of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
However, SAP S/4HANA Cloud is only the first step towards a solution designed to enable companies to plan their resource management in a sustainable manner. Thanks to strategic additions, RISE with SAP now complements SAP S/4HANA Cloud in a meaningful way that helps us drive business innovation together. That’s because RISE with SAP includes business process intelligence (BPI) that goes far beyond pure software implementation. With embedded BPI, RISE with SAP helps analyze a company’s existing processes and compare them with those of its competitors right from the start – allowing the company to identify weaknesses and areas of potential improvement. This BPI remains integrated and performs the relevant analyses on an ongoing basis, not just when switching to the new software.
Contents and scope
For those who want to familiarize themselves with RISE with SAP and develop extensions for RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud using SAP Cloud SDK, we have launched two new learning journeys on the SAP Learning site. If you want to help your company implement new business models and leverage new technologies such as AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics, you need to be familiar with the relevant software options and extension development tools available today and in the near future. With the right skills, you can participate in key areas of innovation that will be a dominant focus for many companies in the coming years – and that can be extremely beneficial for your own career.
The SAP Learning site can now help you explore the capabilities of RISE with SAP and extensibility. In the coming weeks, we plan to keep publishing new learning journey content there.
The first new learning journey – “
Explore RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud” – gives an overview of the possible applications and transformation packages and requires no special previous knowledge. This starter course consists of five units. In total, you invest just under ten hours to gain broad initial insight into the intelligent, sustainable enterprise. You also learn how to make the move to the public or private deployment options of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, how business process testing works, and what the security and service requirements are now and will be in the future.
The second learning journey is designed for developers who need to understand the scope of RISE with SAP and leverage SAP’s developer extensibility model for side-by-side extensions using the SAP Cloud SDK libraries - “
Develop Advanced Extensions with SAP Cloud SDK”.
All of this is free of charge until certification. With the
SAP Learning site, we are bringing together a portfolio of learning content, including courses from the
openSAP platform and
SAP Learning Hub.
For IT professionals, the ability to access this learning content is a classic case of low risk and high reward. The transition to the world of SaaS has long been underway, and anyone who wants to keep their finger on the pulse needs the relevant knowledge. The newly acquired skills can benefit not only you personally, but also your entire organization.
