In this webinar, we have Noboru Ota, exploring how the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2023 release enhances the service line of business. We will learn about highlights of improvements in service management capabilities in the new release in system demonstrations. The highlights include the new Item-Based Accounting, which provides real-time visibility into profitability and revenues for your service business. New features also cover complex asset maintenance processes with the Service with Advanced Execution and scenarios like inter-company service execution.

Key Features and Improvements

  1. Improved Visibility into Profitability and Revenues Recognition: This new financial integration feature (Item-Based Accounting) offers real-time cost and revenue recording and analysis for service orders and contracts, enhancing reporting and improving margin analysis. It also eliminates the need for period ending activities and data warehouse tools, providing real-time profitability for your service business.

  2. Service with Advanced Execution: This feature offers a full-service process to be divided into a commercial service order and an execution maintenance order, facilitating detailed planning and quote generation based on the simulated actuals. Introducing Configurable Task Lists reduce work planning time by describing a sequence of repeat service activities. Furthermore, we now have a system that supports Resource-Related Billing using a Dynamic Item Processor profile (DIP), transforming actual service costs into billable items.

  3. Inter-company Service Execution: This feature facilitates the modelling of service business procedures, allows different companies to complete various aspects of the service execution process, and automates internal cost transfers.

@noboruota I have checked the material available here and in SAP help, and was also checking the Roadmap for service order management. After a good amount of effort, double checking all I can, I couldn't find any mention or plan to integrate with Phase based maintenance. I did have a small chat with Boris, but don't have a definitive answer on this topic.

As a consultant and customer, I see it as a big gap - when there is a push from SAP for phase based maintenance from 2021, why would SAP release Advanced Execution in service with only the old scope items of Breakdown and Preventive maintenance and not with Reactive Maintenance (4HH), Proactive Maintenance (4HI)?

Because the current development path will put customers to do two implementations. First with old maintenance scope items and S/4 Service and then redo that with new scope items and S4 Service. It is trickier with people stuck with Customer service implementations now.

Totally agree with your comments Veera. @noboruota  - There are many disconnects in the current S4Service 2023 app w.r.t Plant Maintenance module, for example, the Inhouse Repair process doesn't sync up the Equipment status in the Plant maintenance end. Cancellation confirmation functionality has lot of bugs in the S4ServiceApp. Can you please look at these issues and get them addressed in your future releases? @VeeraRajachandrasekhar , SAP Fiori apps for maintenance management in the Service with Advanced Execution is probably what you are looking for. The "phase-based maintenance process" is tied to Fiori. As this is a forward-looking information, it may change without prior notice (as noted in the disclaimer).
