As mentioned in previous blog. These are three ways to populate plan data in S/4HANA Cloud.
We illustrated option 1 of using excel files to upload revenue and cost data via Fiori app Import Financial Plan Data. In this blog, we are going to explore how option 2 works by posting cost center planned expenses via API as an example. Please refer to API definition Financial Planning Data - Write | SAP Business Accelerator Hub
Firstly, let’s go through a series of steps to set up communication arrangement for the API.
Fiori App Maintain Communication Users to create an API user.
Fiori App Communication Systems to create a communication system and maintain the user created in previously step.
Fiori App Communication Arrangements to create a communication arrangement with communication scenario SAP_COM_0087(SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning Integration) and maintain the communication system created in previous step.
A list of inbound services is associated with this communication arrangement, the one of our interests for this blog is Financial Planning Data – Write.
In the payload, we are going to post some office building rent expense to an overhead cost center for period 1 and 2 in year 2025.
After successfully posting the planning data via API, we are navigating to Fiori app Cost Center Plan/Actual to view the results. As can be seen, planned amount in company code currency has been populated for cost center under the G/L account office/Building Rent for period 1 and 2 in year 2025.
Please note the Financial Planning Data – Write API can be used to post a variety of planned data; we have only used cost center expenses for demonstration purpose in this blog. The API can be implemented together with SAP CPI to achieve greater flexibility and obtain more benefits. The idea is that with this API, it is possible to conduct planning activities in a non-SAP software and post prepared plan data to S/4HANA system for further processing and comparing plan and actual.
In the next blog, we will continue our planning and budgeting topics and allocate the planned expenses for overhead cost center to other cost centers based on certain criteria.
