Introduction to New Features

Starting from SAP CPQ version 2405, the system email notification function has been upgraded for security purposes. The old SAP CPQ SMTP service will be deprecated in the near future, replaced by two new options: the more secure new SAP CPQ SMTP service, and support for connecting to customers' own SMTP service. For each SAP CPQ customer, the administrator needs to adjust the existing system email notification function settings to meet higher security or custom SMTP service application requirements.
The new feature applies to both Quote 1.0 and Quote 2.0.

Actions Required by Administrators

After your SAP CPQ environment is upgraded to version 2405, administrators can see a new "Email Settings" configuration path in the Setup->General menu. Opening this configuration point, you can see that the system has grouped the SMTP application integration according to the scenario of the CPQ internal email notification function. Administrators need to adjust each Setting Type that SMTP Type is "CPQ Legacy SMTP Service".

Take the Setting Type "Users" as an example. The Affected Features on the right side of the page list the email notification functions related to this scenario setting. Before the settings are adjusted after the upgrade, the system retains the existing SMTP settings. A prompt at the top of the settings page will indicate that this setting method will soon be retired and recommend using the new setting method.

SAP SMTP Service (default)

If you still want to use the built-in SMTP service provided by SAP CPQ, you can choose SMTP Type "SAP SMTP Service (default)". After checking, you will find that the sender's address is fixed as no-reply-cpq@notifications.sap.com, which is the mailing address for SAP CPQ general email notifications; the other fields still support custom settings, such as the sender's display name, etc.

Custom SMTP Service

If you want to use your own or other platforms' SMTP services, or you want to maintain the original custom mailing address, you need to choose SMTP Type "Custom SMTP Service". In this article, we use the commonly used Tencent mail service in mainland China as an example, with the settings as shown in the following figure.

After setting up, you can click the "Test" button below. If the integration is successful, the system will pop up a success message and send a test email to your current CPQ user account email.

If the integration fails, the system will pop up an error message. At this point, as an administrator user, you can open the Developer Console, check "Full Mode" and "Trace Script API Calls". In the Error type tracking log, you can view the detailed error content returned by the external SMTP service. You can then adjust your settings accordingly.
