The blog is about the new personalization features of the Fiori Launchpad for SAP Business ByDesign which was added as an additional feature of the new html5 UI client with the release 1708. It talks only about the new html5 UI client of ByDesign and not about the former Silverlight client.

With the 1711 release of ByDesign the hmtl5 UI client will enhance the personalization capabilities of the Fiori Launchpad. Entering the personalization mode is still available (as usual) via the top-level menu.

In personalization mode the entities are displayed in the sidecar in a structured way as in former releases as well. Via the context menu (right mouse click on desktops) the possible changes are displayed depending on the entity on which it was clicked. This is true for the entities in the sidecar as well as in the content area itself. This is already known and the general way how to personalize entities in the html5 client. There is also the how-to button on the sidecar for which all supported type of changes on this screen are explained and what highlights the entities which support the selected type of change.

However, this is already known and with 1711 we enhanced the Launchpad in a way that it offers the possible changes itself. This is done by displaying in personalization mode a delete button on the tiles to delete a tile from the Launchpad (please mention, this is a real deletion! if you just want to hide the tile, because you might display it later, you could do so via the context-menu),

an additional button to create new groups (a new group is added to the position of the “Add Group” button),

changing the title of a group by just double clicking on the group title itself,

and an additional tile to open a gallery adding new content to the Launchpad.

There are different types of content supported by the gallery so far for the Launchpad with 1711 and we think about more to come in future releases.

The first tab of the gallery shows the Shortcut type, which is like the shortcut feature of 1708 (icon on the navigation bar entry) by adding a tile to the Launchpad which acts as a link to a target which is present as an item in the navigation bar. For further details on the shortcut feature of the navigation bar and its changes from 1708 to 1711 please visit another blog of mine.

Adding a shortcut tile to the Launchpad in 1711 is done via the pushpin icon and either confirmed via the apply button or rejected via the cancel button. The pushpin icon will also indicate if a shortcut is already part of the Launchpad. This is true for all types of content on the gallery.

The new tiles will appear in the group on which the gallery was opened.

In addition to the shortcuts it is also possible to add tiles which open an external link. This is done via the mashups feature and will be offered for adding in the mashup tab of the gallery.

The mashups which are offered on this gallery tab must fulfill several preconditions:

Only mashups of type “Url_Mashup” are supported. Since the Launchpad is context specific they mashup must not have a port binding defined, but they can have regular parameters bounds.

After the selection of the mashups and conformation via the “Apply” button the mashup are displayed as tiles on the Launchpad as well.

The layout of the Launchpad can be adapted by just drag & drop the tiles or the groups to another position.

After the layout is changed we add another type content to the Launchpad which are the KPI tiles. The KPI tiles are maintained in the view “Business Analytics” – “Design KPI”.

Once the apply button is pressed the KPI tiles are part of the Launchpad and after the changes are stored via the save button of the sidecar and the personalization mode is left via the top menu (the same menu as entering the personalization mode) the Launchpad will look like this.

Pressing a KPI tile will navigate to the details screen of the maintained KPI where the underlying information of the KPI configuration are provided.
