In this blog post, we would like to share some additional information that may help you with troubleshooting once you are facing issues with the execution and the set-up of new bots. SAP is continuously providing updates to existing products allowing you to consume the most recent innovations and enrich already acquired software. This affects prominent applications such as as S/4 HANA Cloud, SAP Business ByDesign or SAP Business One, as well our SAP Build Process Automation solution for intelligent process automation, together with the Desktop Agent and Software Development Kits (SDK).
Keeping the software components up-to-date, meaning on the latest available release version, not only allows you to use the newest capabilities and implement the latest security updates and bug fixes, but also to be compatible with recent updates of the platforms. We are also considering backward compatibility; therefore, upgrades should not cause any issues with already developed or acquired bots. This is the reason why we always recommend upgrading your Desktop Agent and SDK to the latest version regularly and especially if you experience any issues; before you create a support ticket an upgrade to the latest version may sometimes already solve your problem.
Here you find a brief description of the upgrade procedures:
- Desktop Agent 2.0
- The update is a simple procedure of:
- manually removing the existing version of Desktop Agent 2.xx from your PC,
- installing the newer version of Desktop Agent 2.yy.
- You can find the link to the latest version of the Desktop Agent in your SAP Business ByDesign instance, under Application and User Management – Download Center.
- Desktop Agent 3.0
- Software Development Kit
We highly recommend our users to start upgrading from Desktop Agent 2.0 to Desktop Agent 3.0. To facilitate the upgrade, see the following document:
Best Practices when Migrating from Desktop Agent 2 to Desktop Agent 3.
As quality has the highest priority, SAP recommends a short testing before upgrading the productive environment.
I hope that the information summarised in this blog helps you to run the automation in your company very smooth and without disruptions.
