Background

SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing for planning and scheduling (PP/DS) capability is used to create procurement proposals for in-house production or external procurement to cover product requirements and to optimize and plan the resource schedule and the order dates/times in detail. With the help of PP/DS, a Production Planner can reduce the lead times, increase on-time delivery performance, or increase the throughput of products and reduce the stock costs.

However, how can the Production Planners ensure that their production plans account for past trends, seasonality, and recurring bottlenecks, to drive more proactive decision-making?

In today's data-driven world, having access to accurate and timely data is crucial for making informed decisions. Depending on the complexity of the business, a production planner could be dealing with hundreds of resources, thousands of products, and thousands of partners and customers. The ability to extract production planning and scheduling data - and analyze it to uncover actionable insights - is critical for adapting future production plans and maintaining a competitive edge.

Introduction

As a part of the SAP S/4HANA 2023 FPS03, four Data Extraction CDS views have been released for PP/DS:

  • Order Details
  • Order Operations
  • Pegging Relationships
  • Resource Capacity

Using the above data extraction views, you can fetch PP/DS data from your SAP S/4HANA system and load it into your data warehouse for reporting, auditing, analytics, or record keeping.

Data Extraction Views

Each of the four Data Extraction CDS views given below have the following inputs:

  • Planning Version
  • Start Date
  • End Date
  • Work Area
  • Customizing ID (of the Work Area)

The Start Date and End Date are both inclusive, and the results are always returned in the UTC Time Zone. If your Work Area does not have a Customizing ID, add a single space in the Customizing ID field.

Order Details

The Data Extraction CDS view C_APSOrdDetsByWorkAreaDEX (Data Extraction view for Order Details by Work Area) extracts the order details including the status, duration, quantity, date, and time.

Order Operations

The Data Extraction CDS view C_APSOrdOpsByWorkAreaDEX (Data Extraction view for Order Operations by Work Area) extracts the order operation (and phases/suboperations) details including the status, duration, quantity, date, and time.

Pegging Relationships

The Data Extraction CDS view C_APSOrdToDmndByWorkAreaDEX (Data Extraction view for Pegging Relationships by Work Area) extracts the pegging relationship details between receipts and requirements including the status, quantity, date, and time.

Resource Capacity

The Data Extraction CDS view C_APSRsceCapByWorkAreaDEX (Data Extraction view for Resource Capacity by Work Area) extracts the capacity duration details for resources on every calendar day from the start date to the end date. The capacity duration excludes the downtime duration.

Wrapping Up

You can use the Data Extraction CDS views to extract PP/DS data from your SAP S/4HANA system. These Data Extraction views can be consumed by applications and frameworks that can consume data extraction CDS views (for example, SAP BW, etc.).

For detailed documentation of the views, see this SAP Help page.
