Introduction
18 Partners across the globe responded to the Hack2Build initiative on Clean Core to build innovations using Clean Core principles using SAP Business AI capabilities, and to drive customers’ success on their RISE with SAP journey.
When companies are pursuing the cloud journey, it is essential to follow a clean core strategy which facilitates the companies to use the latest release, minimize or eliminate modifications, and run with cloud-compliant extensions and customizations. SAP’s Clean Core strategy is one of the cornerstones of the RISE with SAP motion as it safeguards the path for our joint customers to a truly modern Cloud ERP approach. Along with SAP Business AI, it allows for unprecedented automation, decision making, and use experience in a trustful, reliable, and relevant way. Customers derive substantially increased cloud transformation value by SAP Business AI as it is only available in the cloud.
SAP offers a powerful toolset with both low-code and pro-code development tools to build your Cloud ERP extensions. The partners leveraged the recently announced SAP Build Code, the Generative AI-based code development with Joule copilot, to experience the power of application development and build clean core extensions.
About Hack2Build
Hack2Build, ‘Beyond a Hackathon’ is an initiative from Partner Ecosystem Success, which brings together the creativity and speed of prototyping to the partners. Partners validate their ideas with SAP during the ‘Hackathon phase’ and build prototypes in 7 days. Partners are supported with expertise from SAP, to move from prototyping to the ‘Build phase’, to develop their market-ready solution. As a part of the Hack2Build initiative from June 6-13,2024, 18 partners submitted their clean-core use case to build new applications and extend SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition.
Feedback were collected as part of the demo jam sessions. In general, partners enjoyed the fast paced innovation and the support provided by SAP. 96% of partner participants responded that beyond prototyping, that they are willing to develop the full scope of their clean core extension solution in about 10 weeks and drive for customer adoption.
The participating partners across APJ, EMEA and Americas were bifurcated into two groups and were supported by BTP product management, BTP Architects, S/4HANA experts and the larger Partner Ecosystem Success teams. Two groups of winners emerged during the demo jam held on June 13, 2024. The next sections highlight the winning solutions.
Winner Solutions
Group 1 constituted of 8 Partners and the following winners were picked by the jury panel.
Winner: IBM
Clinical Trails Patient Engagement Smart App was developed as an extension to SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud to address multiple issues being faced by the clinical trial patient volunteers, such as insufficient details to register for the study, address change of schedule, support for volunteers with disabilities and other issues. IBM set out to leverage Gen AI Hub capabilities, SAP Build Code, to develop a clean core CAP application to help the clinical trial volunteers. The application showcased how the volunteers can get their clinical trial related queries answered with the help of digital assistant, how it enable volunteers to keep track of their appointments, address adverse weather forecast to reschedule as per their needs. Any out-of-range parameters from the medical report are presented to the volunteers in easily understandable language.
1st Runner Up : Engineering Group
Optimizing invoice management process with AI: AI Invoice Processing (AIP) supports invoice management by addressing key challenges such as OCR readability issues, incomplete data, inconsistencies between invoices and purchase orders, and the risk of undetected fraud. Leveraging the power of SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), AIP automates and enhances electronic invoicing, unlocking the value of AI. It also integrates seamlessly with Public Administration systems for efficient and scalable invoice management, handling invoices from various channels including suppliers and government entities, using AI-powered OCR for higher accuracy. AIP excels in data extraction and anomaly detection using AI and supports user interactions through a chatbot. Flexible deployment options allow for either independent use or seamless integration with SAP Document and Reporting Compliance and SAP Vendor Invoice Management(VIM) by Opentext, optimizing operational efficiency and ensuring regulatory compliance. Engineering's composable solution incorporates BTP-based Fiori web applications on a microservice architecture in a Cloud Foundry environment, supported by standard BTP services like SAP HANA Cloud, SAP AI Core, SAP Document Information Extraction, and SAP Build Work Zone.
2nd Runner Up: FPT Software Co. Ltd.
mySalesPro by FPT Software is a mobile assistant solution for B2B Sales team in companies to help them with quick access to products, services, promotion details, multimedia show-cases, simplifies sales rebate and sales contract creation, and provides customer management on their computer tablet or mobile phone. mySalesPro enables AI-driven sales rebate programs generation, FAQ, etc. The application leverages SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) integrated with SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition, SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) on SAP HANA Cloud. Frontend Architecture is based on SAP Fiori and using SAP Mobile Services for the mobile app which was built using Cross-Platform SAP MDK SDK.
Group 2 constituted of 9 Partners and the following winners were selected.
Winner: Seidor
Airport Billing Solution is a niche solution for airports to prevent revenue leakage by accurately tracking and charging hours spent by airplane carriers and the various services used while the airplane is in the airport. It caters as charging solution for capturing and processing all the data related to aircraft arrival, parking, towing, and departure ensuring accuracy, reliability, and efficiency in managing the entire life cycle. it is designed to support automation of the billing processes, providing control and monitoring tools for real-time tracking, and ensuring transparency and traceability of financial transactions. Seidor developed the solution as a side-by-side extension, using SAP Build Code to generate the base code. The solution leverages Generative AI Hub to suggest best tariffs. The Sales and Financial Documents are created in SAP S/4HANA, Private edition.
1st Runner Up: NTT Data
ProcureGen is a Procure to Pay extension solution for Healthcare developed by NTT Data. The current systems support dispensing of standard medical, surgical, Pharma items for patient from internal stores, or provisioning of services internally in the wards. But, if there is a need to procure patient specific products/services like bespoke orthotics or home care services, then department staff rely on typically disjointed processes, leading to inefficiencies, errors in order processing, and delays in delivery, which ultimately affect patient care quality. ProcureGen is developed as a smart patient-facing ordering and goods receipt application with Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources(FHIR) based Integration with Clinical systems, Catalog-Based Ordering, Mobile Compatibility, Data Privacy and Security regarding patient data, with Financial Process Integration with SAP S/4HANA to handle the financial aspects from procurement to payment. It is built as a side-by-side extension by using standard SAP APIs for integration with SAP S/4HANA. SAP Build Code, SAP Build Work Zone, SAP HANA Cloud, Document Information Extraction are some of the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) services leveraged to build the application. Key User extensibility in the core SAP S/4HANA system was used to display an additional field Patient ID in the standard SAP Fiori app for Purchasing transactions which will provide opportunities for patient level reporting within the core SAP system.
ProcureGen by NTT Data2nd Runner Up : Athenium
The Sophia Weigh Bridge Assistant, developed by Athenium Consulting, is aimed at replacing legacy, manual, and paper-based weigh bridge processes with a digital solution. It is used to track and control inbound and outbound deliveries that depend on weigh bridges as a critical control. It offers enhanced capabilities such as geo-location tagging, signing on glass and collecting invaluable supply chain data applicable to inbound and outbound deliveries. All artefacts such as documents, signatures and supply chain data, gathered using the Sophia Weigh Bridge Assistant, are made available in a customer portal application where customers can get real time insights or interrogate historical data. The Sophia Weigh Bridge Assistant supports mobile (IOS and Android), tablet and PC platforms. Leveraging artificial intelligence, the captured supply chain data can be used to identify operational or safety improvements. The solution is aimed at, but not limited to, the needs of Oil and Gas, Mining and Agriculture industries. The Sophia Weigh Bridge Assistant is clean core compliant, deployed as a side-by-side extension using SAP BTP services such as SAP Workzone, SAP Build Code development, SAP Build Apps for mobile needs, SAP Event Mesh along with other services like SAP Build Process Automation, Identity Authentication, PostgreSQL.
Judges
A diverse panel of experts were brought together to be in the panel of judges. The panel evaluated the partners pitch during the demo jam and scored them on selected criteria on the clean core extension theme. Thanks to our judges for their valuable time and evaluation.

Way Forward
The Hack2Build initiative provides a continuum for participating partners to transition from the 'Hack Phase' to the 'Build Phase'. SAP teams are actively involved in the subsequent phase to assist partners in developing the full scope of their solutions. We anticipate that these partner solutions will drive customer adoption of their innovations, thereby supporting the clean core strategy.
