This blog will provide a short update on the status of custom translation enablement of SAP Business ByDesign employing the Language Adaptation Tool (LAT).

The translation coverage of SAP Business ByDesign by LAT has been increased steadily over the last years to offer the possibility of a near complete end-user centered custom translation of the solution. This has been achieved by embedding additional logic into the tool over time addressing dedicated UI controls which had not been covered by the standard logic due to their special technical design. Examples were - to name but a few - the tiles and content in any work center Overview page, the Change Log control available in some work centers or the list of Closing Cockpit tasks in work center General Ledger.

One area of particular importance that could not be fully custom translated in the past with LAT however was Analytics.
The technical framework for Analytics is very different from normal UIs due to the special nature of the application. Only a small fraction of translatable content is bound to the report face template itself, most content is contained in the dedicated individual reports, consisting of all fields defined as view parameters establishing row or column headers and content within selection parameters. In addition to for example selection parameter texts that are directly derived from code data type code lists, an important concept in SAP Business ByDesign Analytics is the use of 'Relative Selection Parameters'. These are displayed as texts to the user - an example would be selection parameter 'Fiscal Year' with relative parameter values 'Current Fiscal Year', 'Last Fiscal Year' and so forth - and the system determines concrete parameter values for querying from the context of the system master data or business process.

Using Analytics to its' full capability in custom language requires that all view and selection parameters are available to the end user to choose from, ideally as translated texts or at least as parameter value.
This has now been enabled with SAP Business ByDesign release 2208.

To benefit from this enhancement, please re-run the text collection for all text pools containing 'Analytical Report Texts' as content once. This action will add new text elements into the text pools representing the aforementioned view and selection parameters which need to be custom translated in the next step.
Once all translations are completed, please re-run the action 'UI Load Generation' to initialize the translation memories again and you're ready to go.

In summary, with Analytics in SAP Business ByDesign now enabled for custom translation using the Language Adaptation Tool, the solution is now capable to support your business all across the world by empowering your business users to operate it in any local language. For a holistic overview on the dedicated topic of Localization in SAP Business ByDesign please check out the extensive content provided by my colleague antonio.sanchezcoullaut or the relevant topic pages.

Look out for further enhancements of custom translation capabilities using LAT in future releases. Until then we appreciate any thoughts you may have on the dedicated topic as feedback in a comment to this post. Thank you for the valuable input.
