Cross-solution SAP Activate Roadmaps with Cloud ALM

For several years, SAP customers and partners have relied on SAP Activate roadmaps as a valuable source of guidance for implementing products. Traditionally, these roadmaps were authored and consumed on a per-product basis. However, as projects increasingly involve the integration of multiple products, a new solution is required.

With the recent feature release of SAP Cloud ALM and the innovative Activate authoring capabilities, a significant enhancement has been realized. It is now possible to seamlessly combine multiple roadmaps into a single, comprehensive project. This breakthrough not only streamlines the implementation process but also offers a more holistic approach for projects that extend across different SAP products.

How to create a cross solution roadmap:

  1. In the SAP Cloud ALM ‘Project and Setup’ app, create a new project.  
  2. Enter the ‘Project Name’
  3. Using the drop-down for the SAP Activate Roadmap field, select ‘Combinable Roadmaps’. These roadmaps are eligible to be combined.
  4. Select the roadmaps that are included in your project.
  5. Save the combined roadmap.

The resulting roadmap is available in the ‘Tasks’ app.

How it works:

The combining engine compares the phases, deliverables and tasks of each roadmap and determines if the content can be consolidated or must remain product specific. For consolidated tasks, such as project management, only one entity will remain, however, all accelerators will be preserved. The product specific tasks will remain as is and will be presented in a logical order with the other tasks.

A few other notes:

  1. The roadmaps that are listed as ‘Combinable’ have the same content as their Single Roadmap twins.
  2. Integrated components are included in the combined roadmap.
  3. Additional roadmaps will be added to the combinable roadmaps list in the next months.  Stricter authoring standards are required to assure a logical flow of tasks.
  4. The functionality to combine roadmaps is only available in SAP Cloud ALM. However, the SAP Activate Methodology for the Intelligent Enterprise roadmap in the Roadmap Viewer is the output of several roadmaps combined together.

We hope that you find the new functionality useful. It is foundational to other improvements that will allow us to better match the Activate roadmap scope with actual implementation scope.
