We in the SAP community are well versed on SAP S/4HANA. After all, it has been live for some years now with several iterations! A lot of our SAP customers have transitioned to SAP S/4HANA, some have started anew and gone with a “greenfield” approach and started building their processes from the ground up, and others have adopted a hybrid approach, retaining some critical business implementations, whilst attempting to leverage the power of SAP HANA and fostering a cloud-like mindset when deploying business critical applications & technologies.
Whichever path you choose for your SAP S/4HANA project, there are always questions around
custom code adaptation.
Custom Code?
Custom code, or custom developments are a feature of SAP applications. The ability to garner that extra competitive advantage through SAP’s ‘open source’ policy was for years a major benefit to customers. We still offer that flexibility with SAP S/4HANA, but we want to ensure that it is done in a compliant and effective manner.
After a system conversion to SAP S/4HANA, some existing custom-code objects will not work anymore. As such, there is a need to identify these objects in order to determine:
- What code must be adapted in order to work with the new data model in SAP S/4HANA
- What code should be adapted to benefit from the power of SAP HANA?
- What tools and assessment options are available to identify the impacted custom code developments?
- Can we prioritise our worklist, based on business value?
- Are there any options for semi-automatic code adaptation?
You need to adapt custom code after a conversion to
SAP S/4HANA.
For this reason,
SAP Enterprise Support Academy has a live session, the
Expert-guided implementation (EGI) – SAP S/4HANA Custom Code Impact Analysis
.
Expert-guided implementation (EGI) is a multi-hour remote session, powered by
SAP Enterprise Support Academy and delivered over 3-5 working days. They are highly practical, focusing on step-by-step progression through to the completion of a defined task or set of tasks.
The sessions are two-fold:
- In the online classroom usually 1-2 hours in duration, an SAP expert demonstrates step-by-step the execution of a target activity
- You then have the support of the SAP expert if you should come across a stumbling block when you execute the demonstrated steps within your own SAP environment or provided cloud system.
- In order to participate, you must be ready to invest 2 or more hours daily (during the training week).
During the SAP S/4HANA Custom Code Impact Analysis EGI, we will learn:
- Why custom code adaptations are needed in a conversion scenario
- How to address and distinguish between changes required by the migration to SAP HANA and conversion to SAP S/4HANA respectively
- The importance of SAP ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC) and ABAP development Toolkit before and during your SAP S/4HANA project
- How to pick the most suitable of the four deployment options of the ATC for your given context/constraints
- How to incorporate Usage data provided by ABAP Call Monitor(SCMON) to focus efforts only on those impacted developments which are used.
