Want to access ESS/MSS WD applications without portal?

Have you ever encountered a situation where you are required to test/view the Web dynpro applications of ESS/MSS. Additionally you do not have portal users ID nor EP system access!

Sometimes you have portal user credential but want to test the standard application which is not visible to your portal user ID!!!

You can overcome this hurdle via accessing the standard URLs of Web Dynpro applications.

Steps:

• Launch transaction SE80
• Select the Repository Information System tab from left hand top panel
• Open Web Dynpro and double click on the Application Configurations
• Remove the maximum number of Hits and press Execute(or F8) button
• System will list all the available WD applications
• Applications specific to HCM generally starts from H in the list view
• Double click on the any application i.e. HRESS_AC_MENU to view the ESS menu
• Press Execute or F8 button
• Application will open in new browser window

Hi This is really excellent document.

I have a peculiar query from   client that, all core modules has been implemented

now he wanted to go for ESS/MSS implementation without portal. Means they are now cannot afford extra cost in it so they said they wanted it. But its for sure they dont want portal.

Appreciated your kind response, will be really helpful if any inputs from your end.

Hi Shalom,

If the client want ESS/MSS without spending money on portal, they can go with NWBC. It gives almost everything which portal offers.

Moreover its licence free as well.

Will WDA MSS applications like employee profile or position profile work using this method? They use OBN so i doubt they can be run using SE80.
