Future-Ready Configurations: A Guide to Upgrading from LOVC to AVC in SAP
Use the SAP Fiori tile “VC Modeling Environment”. This will show you a quick overview of the differences between the data used for LOVC and Advanced Variant Configuration.
Start by setting up a second configuration profile dedicated to AVC. In the basic data tab, the processing mode must be set to ”Advanced Variant Configuration”. This is different from the LOVC configuration profile which is set to ”Classic”.
(LOVC)
(AVC)
Change the processing mode for Constraint Nets, Constraints and Tables from “Classic” to “Advanced Variant Configuration”.
(LOVC)
(AVC)
When using the “Classic" processing mode for constraints, an “interferences” section in the constraint editor is needed. For AVC, this is not needed.
(LOVC)
(AVC)
First create a second dependency dedicated to AVC.
Change the processing mode for these dependencies on characteristic level, from “Classic” to “Advanced Variant Configuration”.
(LOVC)
(AVC)
For AVC, use the tile “Manage Characteristic Groups”, this is different for LOVC. Assign the different characteristics needed for this group and define their order. You can also change the description for these groups this allows you to create different tabs in the configurator.
Conclusion:
The switch from LOVC to AVC is an easy process which enables you new features and a modern look for your configurator. This transition represents a strategic decision aimed at leveraging advanced technology to drive innovation, improve competitiveness, and meet evolving customer demands in the dynamic marketplace.
