==========================================================================

Before we delve further, I wish to give a short description of RISE with SAP as a part of the private edition and FUE for a better understanding to the reader.
In my own simple terms, RISE with SAP is an offering from SAP that helps customers to shift their ERP workloads to the cloud on an infrastructure provider of the customer’s choice in Private cloud along with converting it into S/4HANA cloud deployment or ERP on HANA deployment. This bundles the underlying cloud IAAS cost, SAP’s license cost, SAP-provided basis managed services for client 000 , CPEA credits based on usage, innovative tools that will help the customers to turn to an Intelligent enterprise etc, all under one contract under one SLA in subscription-based model. This also helps in unmatched reduction of TCO for customers. RISE with SAP is not a product. It is not an Iaas or Paas or Saas but a combination of all 3 => Business Transformation as a service.

In SAP terms “RISE with SAP is a customer-first, partner-centric delivery approach that helps the customer to transform into an Intelligent Enterprise. This bundles SAPS/4 HANA Cloud(Public(SaaS)/Private), infrastructure that runs on a hyperscaler of customer choice(AWS,Azure, GCP or Alibabacloud), Business process intelligence,tools(Custom code Analyzer,SAP readiness check, SAP Learning hub), SAP BusinessNetwork starter pack and SAP business technology platform all under ONEcontract.

One of the critical component and starting point that SAP uses for calculating the underlying subscription cost is the FUE. Full User equivalent is a way of calculating the RISE-based user classification which is then used to map against SAP-provided t-shirt size for underlying infrastructure . ie, this is synonymous with the user-based sizing in quick sizer in the on-premise world. However, SAP has dictated the relationship between these as below in their service description guide(SDG) to help with RISE sizing.

  1. 1 FUE = 0.50 SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Developer Access;

  2. 1 FUE = 1 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for advanced use

  3. 1 FUE = 5 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for core use;

  4. 1 FUE = 30 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for self-service use.

For more information about, above indicated users, please refer the SDG document link mentioned in this blog.

With this FUE as a base, SAP is providing 2 different flavours of RISE with SAP , private edition.

  1. STANDARD OPTION : With this option, SAP has created a relationship between the FUE (Full User Equivalent) against the underlying hardware. ie, This will act as a starting point to arrive at a minimum t-shirt size that can be mapped to a customer. Please note the word minimum as SAP always provides memory extension SKUs if a specific t-shirt is too small for a customer to host their ERP workload. (Source Image from SDG of standard option).If a customer's FUE requirement is 136, their t-shirt mapping will be XXS which provides a 2 system landscape with one production DB and development DB of size 256GB. Each of the environments will have one PAS against 2 total application servers tagged against XXS size. The same mapping is also applicable for all the customer who's FUE requirement falls between 136 to 549. ie The t-shirt size mapped for a customer with FUE 136 will be equal to that of a customer with FUE 549 provided they are not adding additional SKU for new non-production tiers nor memory extensions. For more information on this t-shirt, please refer the blog https://blogs.sap.com/2023/03/24/rise-with-sap-summary-of-public-information-available-part1/

  2. TAILORED OPTION: With this option, though the FUE calculation is still the same like Standard option, SAP has not provided a t-shirt mapping for the underlying infrastructure in the tailored option SDG. Hence I assume that this will provide the customer with full flexibility to choose their hardware based on their precise requirement, tailored specifically to the customer's needs. ie, a customer with FUE 136 need not have to have the same starting hardware size of a customer with FUE requirement 549 .

According to my understanding below are the identifiable differences and similarities between RISE with SAP (private edition) Standard option and the tailored option.

Category Standard option Tailored option

T-Shirt

(Difference)

T-Shirt based sizing provided to the customer based on their FUE requirement. (Refer previous section for t-shirts sizes available as on date from SAP)

No T-shirt-based sizing. Customers will be provided with infrastructure based on their individual requirement.

Target sizing

(Difference)
Based on

  1. Number of FUE

  2. T-shirt that is mapped against the FUE

  3. Additional memory extensions if subscribed

  4. Additional non-production tier if subscribed

Based on the customer target sizing requirement. FUE:Tshirt mapping is not applicable here. Also I am not able to find memory extensions SKU nor additional non-production tier SKU.

  2. 1 FUE = 1 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for advanced use

  3. 1 FUE = 5 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for core use;

  3. 1 FUE = 5 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for core use;

  4. 1 FUE = 30 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for self-service use.

HANA Runtime

(Difference)
As per SDG of Standard option:
"SAP HANA, runtime is a runtime database included in certain SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition packages ("HANA Runtime"). All SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition packages inclusive of HANA Runtime are subject to the following terms. HANA Runtime and the additional Cloud Service Software components included in HANA Runtime may only be used in conjunction with Customer's use of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition packages.

HANA Runtime includes the limited use of the following additional Cloud Service Software components:

a. SAP HANA Platform;

b. SAP HANA Data Warehousing Foundation (limited solely to Data Distribution Optimizer and Data Lifecycle Manager components);

c. SAP HANA Rules Framework;

d.SAP HANA, data privacy option;

e. SAP HANA, predictive option;

f. SAP HANA, spatial and graph option;

g. SAP HANA, search and text option;

h. SAP HANA, Smart Data Quality ("SDQ");

i. SAP Smart Data Integration ("SDI");

j. SAP HANA, native storage extension"

As per SDG of Tailored option:
"SAP HANA, runtime is a runtime database licensed for use with certain SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, tailored option packages (“HANA Runtime”). All SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, tailored option packages licensed with HANA Runtime are subject to the following terms. HANA Runtime and the additional Subscription Software components included in HANA Runtime may only be used in conjunction with Customer’s use of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, tailored option packages.

HANA Runtime includes the limited use of the following additional Subscription Software components:

a SAP HANA Platform;

b.SAP ASE and MaxDB databases;

c.SAP HANA Data Warehousing Foundation (limited solely to Data Distribution Optimizer and Data Lifecycle Manager components);

d. SAP Near-line storage for SAP BW NetWeaver Cloud and SAP BW/4HANA Cloud; SAP HANA Rules Framework;

e. SAP HANA, data privacy option;

f. SAP HANA, predictive option;

g. SAP HANA, spatial and graph option;

h.SAP HANA, search and text option;

i.SAP HANA, Smart Data Quality (“SDQ”);

j.SAP Smart Data Integration (“SDI”);

k.SAP HANA, native storage extension."

Databases available for usage

(Difference)
HANA(ERP, S/4HANA, SAP GRC , SOLMAN etc), ASE(JAVA, SLT, Standalone Fiori etc), MaxDB(Content server) as dictated in the SDG.

HANA(ERP, S/4 etc) .

Other than the usage of ASE on SLT, there is no specific information dictated as to which S/4 HANA-connected environment can be hosted on which specific database such as HANA or ASE or MaxDB (unlike the Standard option.)

Hence it might be fair for me to assume that based on the customer requirement,  non-S/4HANA environments and non-ERP environments can also be hosted on ASE(SOLMAN, SLT, Netweaver Java) or MaxDB on case by case basis

Partner's role with target  infrastructure sizing

(Difference)

As SAP already have t-shirt-based infra mapping as dictated in the SDG and also have provided memory extensions etc, I assume that the partner role is restricted to validating the BOM provided by SAP against the customer's minimum requirement.

SAP using their standard VM mapping that is preconfigured, will bundle this component along with the other components(FUE, SAP license, Network, SLA etc) involved in the RISE construct to arrive at the subscription pricing

As there is no standard t-shirt based mapping provided in the SDG of tailored option , I assume that the partner will have to understand the customer infra requirement and can also provide VM mapping to SAP.

SAP will then work with the chosen CSP (AWS/GCP/Azure/SAP etc) and will arrive at the target infrastructure sizing . SAP will bundle this infra component along with the other components(FUE, SAP license, Network, SLA etc) involved in the RISE construct to arrive at the subscription pricing

Subscription components

(Difference)
As per SDG of Standard option,
RISE with S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, Standard option includes use rights to the following software components and the subscription cost paid by the customer is inclusive of infrastructure required to host these services.

There is a standard mapping for these components against the infrastructure size that will be allocated.

(*2x8GB for production and 1x8GB for non-production.

**2x16 for production and 1x16GB for non-production.

***1x8GB for production and non-production)

  1. SAP Cloud Connector (installed on separate servers*).

  2. SAP Web Dispatcher (installed on separate servers*).

  3. SAP Fiori embedded (installed on the S/4HANA Cloud System only).

  4. SAP Data Provisioning Agent (installed on separate servers**, available on customer request).

  5. SAP Analytics Cloud Agent (installed on separate servers***, available on customer request).

  6. SAP Data Services Agent (installed on separate servers**, available on customer request).

Customer is required to obtain a subscription to the associated SAP Cloud Service in case of e) and f) above separately to use the integration agent provided with the Cloud Service.

As per SDG of tailored option,
RISE with S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, tailored option includes use rights to the following software components. But the  infrastructure required to operate below must be licensed separately

  1. SAP Cloud Connector (installed on separate servers, 2x8GB for production and 1x8GB for non-production, available on customer request

  2. SAP Data Services Agent (installed on separate servers, 2x8GB for production and 1x8GB for non-production, available on customer request)*

  3. SAP Web Dispatcher (installed on separate servers, 2x8GB for production and 1x8GB for non-production).

  4. SAP Fiori embedded (installed on the S/4HANA Cloud System only).

  5. SAP Data Provisioning Agent (installed on separate servers, 2x16GB for production and 1x16GB for nonproduction, available on customer request).

  6. SAP Analytics Cloud Agent (installed on separate servers, 1x8GB for production and 1x8GB for non-production, available on customer request)*

*Customer is required to obtain a subscription to the associated SAP cloud service separately to use the integration agent provided with RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, tailored option.

SLA

(Similar)
As per Service level agreement provided in document below in section 1.17 which is common for both Standard and Tailored option https://assets.cdn.sap.com/agreements/product-use-and-support-terms/cls/en/service-level-agreement-f...
"99.5% System Availability Percentage for PRD unless a higher System Availability Percentage is identified in
the Supplement or Order Form;

95.0% System Availability Percentage for NON-PRD unless a higher System Availability Percentage is
identified in the Order Form; and

99.5% System Availability Percentage for Server Provisioning"

(NOTE: RISE with SAP, S/4HANA private edition provides an application SLA of 99.7% unlike what has been indicated in this legal document. For consistency purpose,  I will leave the entries unchanged to replicate as per the SLA document referred.)

As per SDG of the Standard option, RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, base option will not provide 99.9% HA SLA unless a dedicated line item for the HA is included in the BOM.
"RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition, base option is not eligible for the SAP RISE 99.9% SLA."

As per Service level agreement provided in document below in section 1.17 which is common for both Standard and Tailored option https://assets.cdn.sap.com/agreements/product-use-and-support-terms/cls/en/service-level-agreement-f...
"99.5% System Availability Percentage for PRD unless a higher System Availability Percentage is identified in
the Supplement or Order Form;

95.0% System Availability Percentage for NON-PRD unless a higher System Availability Percentage is
identified in the Order Form; and

99.5% System Availability Percentage for Server Provisioning"

Infrastructure level SKU

(Difference)
In SDG of Standard option we will be able to see below additional infrastructure level SKU

  1. SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, ADDITIONAL PRODUCTIVE TIER, PRIVATE EDITION(T-shirt mapping XXS/XS è256 GB ; S è512 GB ; M =>1024 GB; L =>2048 GB ; XL =>3072 GB ; XXL =>6144 GB ; 4XL=> 12288 GB)

  2. SAP CLOUD, MEMORY EXTENSION FOR PRODUCTIVE TIERS, PRIVATE EDITION with block unit as 256 GB

  3. SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, SYSTEM EXTENSION, PRIVATE EDITION

  4. SAP APP SERVER LINUX CLOUD, PRIVATE EDITION(As per SDG Up to 128 GB of Memory, in sizes of 32GB, 64GB or 128 GB. 26.3. SAP APP SERVER LINUX CLOUD, PRIVATE EDITION is access to one additional Application Server(s). Application Server size is based on the respective system landscape usage tiers where it is added. Additional Application Server(s) can be applied to all private edition solutions where Application Server(s) are parts of the package and where is a need for Application Server(s) beyond the limited number in the packages.)

  5. SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, ADDITIONAL (NON-PRODUCTIVE) TIER, PRIVATE EDITION

and so on
I am not able to see any of the infrastructure-related line items in SDG of tailored option as these are not valid .The systems will be sized , priced and Tailored based on the customer's requirement

Disaster Recovery

(Different)

As per SDG of Standard option, the base subscription does not include DR unless the SKU SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, DISASTER RECOVERY, PRIVATE EDITION is added to the customer BOM

SKUs available

SKU SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, DISASTER RECOVERY, PRIVATE EDITION

SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, 4 HOUR RECOVERY TIME OBJECTIVE, PRIVATE EDITION

As per DR service document https://assets.cdn.sap.com/agreements/product-policy/hec/service-description/disaster-recovery-servi...
"If Customer has purchased the optional Disaster Recovery services for RISE with S/4HANA Cloud, private edition
or SAP ERP, private cloud edition, the

1.RTO is 12 hours and RPO is 30 minutes for Long Distance DR,

2.RTO is 12 hours and the RPO is 0 minutes for Short Distance DR.

For Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, Short
Distance DR is only available in selected regions and for Amazon Web Services, Short Distance DR is available in SAP enabled regions. If Customer has purchased the optional SAP S/4HANA Cloud, 4 hour recovery time
objective, private edition or SAP ERP, 4 hour recovery time objective, private cloud edition the RTO is 4 hours
(instead of 12 hours) and the RPO remains unchanged as indicated in this section"

I am not able to see any specific line item in SDG of tailored for this.

As per DR service document https://assets.cdn.sap.com/agreements/product-policy/hec/service-description/disaster-recovery-servi...

"For Tailored Option Services, the DR Services RTO/RPO options are set forth in the table below. Generally, the
standard RTO is 12 hours, but RTO of 4 hours may be available for defined scenarios if agreed by the parties in the
Order Form. For Tailored Option Services, the DR Services option purchased for the respective components is
stated in the relevant column of the System Set-Up Table in the Order Form via the applicable designation set
forth in the table below."

Adobe services

(Different)
As per SDG of standard option:
"Below conditions for adobe services is valid with Standard option and the subscription cost is inclusive of infrastructure required to host this as a part of standard cost which has a fixed sizing tagged to it.

Forms as a Service by Adobe. Customer may make up to 2,000,000 Forms Requests per year in Forms as a Service by Adobe for no additional fee. A single Form Request is counted for each document with up to 5 pages created using this Cloud Feature. The number of Form Requests for a document created with more than 5 pages is calculated by dividing the total pages of the document by 5. If the result of the calculation is not a whole number, the remainder shall be counted as a single Form Request. Form Requests for which a number of pages cannot be determined "

As per SDG of tailored option:
"Below conditions for adobe services is valid with tailored option. However the required infrastructure must be priced separately

Forms as a Service by Adobe. Customer may make up to 2,000,000 Forms Requests per year in Forms as a Service by Adobe for no additional fee. A single Form Request is counted for each document with up to five (5) pages created using this Cloud Feature. The number of Form Requests for a document created with more than five (5) pages is calculated by dividing the total pages of the document by five (5). If the result of the calculation is not a whole number, the remainder shall be counted as a single Form Request. Form Requests for which a number of pages cannot be determined"

As per SDG of Standard option, additional backup storage can be requested with the SKU SAP LONG TERM BACKUP, PRIVATE EDITION with per block size of 256GB with below-indicated retention period.

As I am unable to see entries like Standard edition in SDG of Tailored, I assume that the Backup requirement will be tailored according to the customer's requirement.

SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT CUSTOMER EVALUATION SYSTEM, PRIVATE EDITION

(Different)

RISE with SAP S/4HANA , private edition under Standard option provides an SKU for the Evaluation system.

As per SDG of Standard option:

VM sizes available as per hosting partner

(Different)

As per SDG of the Standard option, below are the sizes provided by the respective CSP.

"The following system sizes are delivered by the listed hosting provider, including SAP, and apply automatically instead of values set out in tables in the SDG:

For SAP BW/4HANA Cloud, private edition and SAP BW NetWeaver Cloud, private edition, the following system sizes are delivered by the listed hosting provider:

* System size is eligible for increase to 3,844 GiB for workload-based sizing only, as further described in the Certified and Supported SAP HANA Hardware Directory"

As expected, there is no such dedicated information on target size is available in the Tailored option SDG.

Roles and Responsibilities service classification

(Same)

As per R&R document of the Standard option:

https://assets.cdn.sap.com/agreements/product-policy/hec/roles-responsibilities/rise-with-sap-s4hana...

Roles and Responsibilities that are different between Standard and Tailored option

(Different)

R&R document for Standard option:

https://assets.cdn.sap.com/agreements/product-policy/hec/roles-responsibilities/rise-with-sap-s4hana...

Some of the line items that are tagged as not offered are not valid for the Standard option and have been included in the Tailored option.

Migration scope in Standard option fall under CAS services and can either be performed by Customer chosen CAS partner or by SAP if SAP themselves are the CAS partner

CAS(Cloud Application Services)

As per R&R document of the Tailored option https://assets.cdn.sap.com/agreements/product-policy/hec/roles-responsibilities/rise-with-sap-s4hana...

Below are the line items that are additionally valid in case of the Tailored option.

NOTE: In the tailored option, I am observing a line item that I have highlighted in yellow above. This indicates that heterogeneous migration is part of SAP-provided Standard services.I assume that any migration within RISE with SAP which is of heterogenous nature will be under SAP's scope.

I also assume that it will be fair to assume that the migration from on-premise to RISE will still be under partner's or CAS provider's scope
