Introduction:
This blog outlines the leading medical device industry business process steps to fulfill trunk stock (Stock held by a sales representative) requests from a medical sales representative.
A medical sales representative may request material from the company to pursue a sales opportunity or for marketing purposes, this process needs to accurately be captured in the S4 Hana system to provide visibility, tracking, logistics support, and accountability. The following provides system process steps to achieve this goal.
Pre-requisite:
- A sales representative will be created as an in-house customer
- Instruments and Consumables set up as separate materials
Setup Steps:
Configure new consignment document type: -
Step 1: Define Consignment fill up and pick up document types.
SPRO – Sales and Distribution – Sales document- Sales document header – Define sales document type.
Consignment Fill up. – To deliver to a medical sales representative
Consignment Pick up – To pick up from medical representative.
Step 2:
Define item categories.
SPRO – Sales and Distribution – Sales document- Sales document item – Define item categories.
Consignment Fill-up Item category.
Consignment pick-up item category
Step 3:
Schedule lines
SPRO – Sales and Distribution – Sales document- Schedule lines – Define schedule lines.
Consignment Fill-up schedule line
Consignment Pickup Schedule line.
Step 4: Assign document type to the sales area.

Step 5: Assign Item Categories

Process steps: -
Step 1. Create a Consignment fill-up (KB) order to fulfill the trunk stock request from a medical representative.
Step 2: Create an outbound delivery with reference to the KB Order. Pick, pack, and Issue
Step 3: (Optional) – If the medical representative chooses to return material to the warehouse, create pick up order (KA) To pick up from the medical sales representative after pre-sale activity
Step 4: Create Inbound delivery and receive goods in the warehouse of origin.
