Create a Specification of the Customer Requirement

When the sales person visits the customer company during the requirement gathering phase he/she shows his company catalogues to the customer for the varieties of product which is manufactured by his company. He/she has to remember and go through the full catalogue documentation in order to show the requirements fulfilled for his various clients in the past .

There is provision in SAP ByDesign to maintain Specifications of the product so that the Sales representative can directly login to the system and built the detailed specification required for the customer and forward it to the production or engineering team.

This is achieved through the Work centre Product Development.

The below illustration will help in better understanding of the subject .

Consider a company which manufactures customized Laptops. There are requirements from the customer to design and manufacture laptops with different specification. For laptops the company decided to make the key features of laptops as properties in SAP ByDesign

Below are the properties defined in SAP ByDesign for Laptop.

  • RAM

  • Storage

  • Screen Size

  • Battery Capacity

  • Screen Resolution

  • CPU

RAM

Storage Screen Size Battery Capacity Screen Resolution CPU

2 GB

64 GB 12.5 44Wh 1920 x 1080 Core I3

3 GB

128 GB 13.3 50Wh 1366 x 768

Core I5

4 GB 256 GB 15.6 40Wh 1600 x 900

Core I7

17.0

Above mentioned are the various combinations of specifications which have been manufactured previously for different customers by the laptop company.

Going forward by using SAP ByDesign the sales representative can directly show these already manufactured specifications to the customer and directly gather the requirement and send it to next team.

For maintaining these attributes there are three parameters which come into account mentioned below

  • Product Properties

  • Product Model

  • Product Specifications

These attributes comes under Product Development Workcenter.

  1. Product Properties

These are the different features a product can have. We are making RAM, Storage, Screen Size, Battery Capacity, Screen Resolution and CPU as Product Properties which are the direct features of the final product Laptop.

In Product Properties we can also maintain the different variations like RAM can be 2GB or 3GB or 4GB.

       2. Product Model

Product Model is defined as the possible Variations of a product. Here in Product Model we assign the product properties to the Product. i.e. in this case we will assign all the product properties to the product Laptop so that we can get an idea of the different variations of the product.

  1. Product Specification

This is the place where the Sales Representative enters the information as per to the requirement of the customer. This step describes individual customer requirement or product variants. Here the sales representative enters the Product ID which in turn populates the Product Properties linked to the Product ID in the Product Model.

The various specifications can be selected and some special requirement can be captured through additional notes or attachments.

After filling up the Product Specification the Sales representative releases it so that it cannot be edited hence forth, it means the requirement has been freezed.

Once the Product Specification is released the pdf view of the specification can be downloaded and sent to the production or engineering department for further processing.
