Use of the Handle Your Extensions App Now Mandatory

With SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2408, we’ve added a new prerequisite for the test data refresh service.

Previously, using the Handle Your Extensions app was optional. If you decided not to use the app, the data of your custom fields was considered by default.

With SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2408, you need to create a configuration using the Handle Your Extensions app before you can proceed with the test data refresh service. This step is required even if you don't use any cloud extensions or if you don't want to refresh your target system with data from your cloud extensions.

This change ensures that you won’t overlook how to handle the data of your cloud extensions during the test data refresh service.

We've provided this blog post to help you with this change. We understand that this change might impact you in different ways. For some scenarios, nothing has changed. For other scenarios, things will be different with SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2408. See the decision-tree below for details.

If you are using the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, test data refresh service and you’ve used the Handle Your Extensions app before, then note the following:

  • I want to refresh the target system with data from all of my cloud extensions.
    No change is needed. Continue as usual and make sure your configuration is not outdated.

  • I don't want to refresh the target system with data from my cloud extensions.
    No change is needed. Continue as usual and create an active and up-to-date configuration that does not include any data belonging to your cloud extensions

    Note
    Before SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2408, using the Handle Your Extensions app was optional. If you decided not to use the app, the service refreshed the target system with data from your custom fields by default. From SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2408 onwards, you need to include them explicitly in your configuration.

  • I only want to refresh the target system with data from my custom fields, I'm not interested in data from any other cloud extensions.
    Your situation has changed. From SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2408 onwards, you need to use the Handle Your Extensions app to create an active and up-to-date configuration. Include all data of your custom fields in your configuration, and then activate your configuration.

  • I don't use any cloud extensions. 
    Your situation has changed. From SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2408 onwards, you need to create an active and up-to-date configuration even if you don’t have any cloud extensions. In this case, this will mean creating an empty configuration.

If you are using the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, test data refresh service and you’ve never used the Handle Your Extensions app before, then note the following:

  • I don't use any cloud extensions or I only want to refresh the target system with data from my custom fields, I'm not interested in data from any other cloud extensions.        
    Your situation has changed. From SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2408 onwards, you need to use the Handle Your Extensions app to create an active and up-to-date configuration. Include the cloud extensions you would like the data to be refreshed to the configuration and activate your configuration.
