In-app help is more than just field-level help. We strive for the most comprehensive in-app help experience to help you perform your tasks within the app itself without having to constantly jump back and forth between the app and help resources. In addition to field-level help, the What’s This App? tile, and in-app What’s New, some product areas provide additional content and features based on the customer feedback they’ve received, such as:
First, how do you access the in-app help? On the SAP Fiori Launchpad, the question mark tells you that SAP Companion - our native in-app help tool - is active but not open. Click the question mark to display the Help Panel and display the SAP Fiori Launchpad in-app help. You will see generic information and instructions on how to navigate in the system.
Let’s for example open the Manage Processing Rules – For Bank Statements app. Click the question mark to display the in-app help:
The Help Panel on the right displays both generic and app-specific content, the Search field helps you find in-app help on a particular app screen, and the Quick Tour is a generic introduction to the app UI that you can go through sequentially:
The What’s This App? tile links to the app description in the product assistance on SAP Help Portal, where you can find more information about the app and business information as well:
Hotspots are question mark icons on the app UI that tell you that field-level help is available for a specific field. Hover over them to display the content. You can also access the content from the Help Panel. Field-level help ranges from simple text, as in the first example, to more comprehensive help with tables and graphics, as in the second example:
You may have noticed the Learning icon screenshot next to the Help Panel:
Click the icon to open the Learning tile. The Learning Center tile contains Learning assets. Learning assets can be tutorials or interactive demos that help you familiarize yourself with an app and learn how to navigate within it.
ℹ️ Not all apps offer Learning assets.
The following example is drawn from the Manage Automatic Payments app in Finance:
The SAP S/4HANA Cloud community contains a wealth of resources and is the perfect place for interaction. You can search for information, ask questions, and engage with SAP experts, customers, and partners.
Frequently asked questions are compilations of questions and answers that are part of the product assistance or an SAP Note and that enlighten you on specific aspects of a functionality:
How-to procedures are step-by-step procedures, whereas how-to videos are the visual equivalents of such procedures. In the following examples, how-to procedures and how-to videos are part of the same tile:
ℹ️You can watch the videos full screen by pressing the corresponding button (). Most videos are provided in English only but with multilingual captions.
A Welcome tile is a custom tile that redirects you to a wide range of useful resources, so that you become familiar with a specific process, for example, the Source-to-Pay process in Sourcing and Procurement:
Configuration apps allow configuration experts in Finance to check and adapt configuration settings. They are shipped with a wide range of deliverables. Let’s have a closer look at, for example, the Renumber G/L Accounts configuration app:
You may wonder why there are so many resources. This is simply because configuration requires information from different channels. The more information we provide to the implementer, the better.
In-app help can have links to further information on SAP Help Portal. This is the case when the field-level help doesn’t suffice or when more contextual information is needed.
Alternatively, you can find further information on SAP Help Portal in the Help Panel:
In-app help What’s New informs you about new, changed, renamed, or deprecated apps, as well as new or changed features in apps in an SAP S/4HANA Cloud release.
When you open an app, a banner informs you about the changes:
Please note the color used to draw your attention (orange). If you click it away, you won’t see the banner next time you open your app. To call it up again, click the icon.

And another one in Sourcing and Procurement:
Guided tours consist of a sequence of interactive steps that help you perform a specific task in an app.
