Welcome to my blog!!

In SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, customizing fields and formulas in manufacturing processes can greatly enhance flexibility and precision. This blog post walks you through the steps to create and map custom fields to Work Center Formula Parameters, enabling you to define custom calculations tailored to your business requirements. Whether you’re configuring manufacturing master data or refining routing operations, this guide provides a clear, step-by-step approach to ensure a smooth setup.

  • Access Fiori app ‘Custom Fields’ > Click ‘+’ icon to create a custom field. In the New Field popup, set the Business Context to ‘Manufacturing: Bill of Operations Operation (PP_BILLOFOPERATIONS_OPERATION) and the field type to ‘Quantity with Unit’ as no other Business context or field types are supported for WorkCentre formula parameters. Once required data entered, click Create and Edit.

  • On the Custom Field screen, under the General Information tab, take note of the Field Component Name ending with the suffix ‘_PPO’, as this will be used to map the custom field to a parameter.

  • On the User Interfaces tab, enable the custom field’s usage for the relevant SAP GUI screens, CDS Views, and Services.

  • Enable the custom field’s usage for the relevant APIs.

  • Enable the custom field’s usage for the relevant Business Scenario. Enable Routing to Production order on Operation level for Discrete Manufacturing, Master Recipe to Process Order on Operation Level for Process Manufacturing and Shop Floor Routing to Production Order on Operation Level for Complex Manufacturing scenarios.

  • Enable the custom field’s usage for the required SOAP APIs

  • After entering all the necessary information, Save and Publish the custom field. Once saved, you’ll notice two entries: one for the Bill of Operations Operation business context and another for the Order Operation business context, where the custom field will be visible.

  • Once the custom field is published, you can view the newly created field at Routing Operation level under Custom Fields section.

  • Navigate to Configuration path Manufacturing and Quality > Manufacturing Master Data > Common Settings for Work Center and Resource > Define Parameters

  • Create the Work Center Formula Parameter with origin 8 (Custom Field from Operation). Fill in all the necessary data, leaving the ‘Field Name’ field blank.

  • Once the parameter is defined, map the newly created custom field to Workcenter formula parameter via Manufacturing and Quality > Manufacturing Master Data > Routings > Routing > Mapping custom Tasklist operation Fields to Work Center Formula Parameters.

  • Create New Entries by adding the parameter name that is created in Step (10) and the Field component name recorded in step (2)

  • Once mapping completed, navigate to the configuration path Manufacturing and Quality > Manufacturing Master Data > Work Centers > Work Center > Define Formulas for Work Centers

  • Define the formula according to business requirements, using the parameter mapped to the custom field.

By following these steps, you can effectively configure custom fields and map them to Work Center Formula Parameters in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
