Dear PLM community,

When it comes to product definition and development, we all know that flexibility is key. There are many reasons why companies may use a variety of PLM systems to bring their ideas to life. To get your PLM data into your SAP system, a smooth data handover between these systems is vital for successful product development. This is why SAP strives to offer you the right tools to transfer your engineering data into your SAP ERP system, be it SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, SAP S/4HANA, or SAP ERP. And in 2024, an integration should be easy to set up and configure, so that you can best support the processes you really need.

PLM system integration is well-known as the next generation integration to Siemens Teamcenter.  And this fall, we have great news for you:

Expand Your Range

As announced earlier this year, one big focus topic has been to expand the range of external PLM systems you can connect to your SAP system using PLM system integration. To this end, we collaborated with experienced development partners to add new PLM add-ons to our product family. Together with PLM system integration, these add-ons offer you tailor-made integration capabilities via the following integration products:

PLM system integration, add-on for Windchill

Use this add-on to integrate SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, SAP S/4HANA, or SAP ERP with PTC Windchill, a product lifecycle management (PLM) software that helps manage product data and processes throughout the product development lifecycle. Manage effectivity and quality in a reliable and secure way.

Integration With SAP Solutions

Explore the possibilities with PLM system integration, add-on for Windchill that allow your Windchill system to seamlessly communicate with SAP S/4HANA and SAP ERP systems. This integration is designed to support a variety of SAP deployment models, including public cloud, private cloud and on-premise solutions. This flexibility ensures that our solutions can meet the diverse needs of our global client base, adapting to various IT landscapes and business requirements so you can benefit from enhanced PLM capabilities.

Streamlining Operations: Available Key Business Processes

The first release, PLM system integration, add-on for Windchill 3.0, supports key business processes for Change and Release Management to streamline product updates like New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) for faster product launches, and Minor/Major Change Process for managing product revisions efficiently. Additional processes will be included in future releases to enhance your PLM capabilities further.

Enhanced Features for Comprehensive Business Processes

Our first release of PLM system integration, add-on for Windchill features a rich list of capabilities designed to empower engineers and product development teams.

  1. Windchill Parts to SAP Materials Transfer
Focused on being invisible to the Windchill user’s eye, our background-first integration will transfer Parts from Windchill to SAP as they reach a certain maturity, enhancing the maintenance of material masters and aligning product revisions across systems.
  2. BOMs Under Version Control
Maintain version-controlled bills of materials within SAP through the integration, ensuring data integrity and transparency across engineering and supply chain departments.
  3. Change Management Integration
Trigger change management processes in SAP based on engineering changes in Windchill, aligning operations and engineering more closely.
  4. Document Management Integration
Create and manage document info records directly from Windchill and replicate lightweight viewing files from Windchill to SAP. This provides all stakeholders with access to critical 3D visual data and delivers drawings to the workers on your shop floor, thereby improving master data quality and process integration.
  5. Cross-system Data Federation
Show critical business data within Windchill, providing a holistic view of the material master, bills of materials, change objects, document info records and more.

Looking Ahead: Future Road Maps and Innovations

As we continue to innovate, our future releases are set to introduce even more robust features:

  • Release 3.1 "Manufacturing Integration" (Q1 2025)
Includes integration of process plans from Windchill MPMLink, plant-specific material master creation, and advanced classification handling to enhance manufacturing operations and data management.
  • Release 3.2 "Product Variability" (Q3 2025)
Focuses on advanced engineering changes driven from SAP, supplier information exchange, and extensive support for variant configurations, ensuring a versatile and dynamic approach to product lifecycle management.
