As SAP continues to refine its cloud offerings, the 2502 release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition brings a suite of enhancements specifically tailored for the Manufacturing line of business. This release focuses on enriching features across Production Engineering, Production Planning, Extended Production Planning, Production Operations, and Quality Management. Here's a look of the most important innovations of what's new:
Production Engineering
Process Production Versions: Background Mass Edit
You can now perform background mass edit for the existing production versions. This type of mass edit runs in the background during which you can perform various other actions including mass edits for production versions.
You now have the option to select two types of mass edits:
Foreground
Foreground type does not allow you to perform any actions on the production versions until the mass edit is complete.
Background
Background type allows you to perform actions on the production versions during the mass edit. These actions include create, mass edit, lock, unlock, check, and delete for production versions.

Production Planning
Manage Material Coverage - Planning Time Fence
The stock / requirements list of the Manage Material Coverage (F0251A) app now includes information about the planning time fence or manual firming date of a material.
You can use a planning time fence to protect procurement proposals from automatic changes during the MRP planning run. If a planning time fence is defined in the material master data or for the MRP group a material is assigned to, the system can automatically firm the following types of receipt elements, depending on the firming type of the material:
• Purchase Requisitions
• Planned Orders
• Delivery Schedule Lines
The same applies to materials with a manual firming date. If the manual firming date is after the end of the planning time fence, the system uses this date to determine which elements are firmed. For materials with a planning time fence or manual firming date, the stock / requirements list in the Manage Material Coverage (F0251A) app now displays a separate row to indicate that a planning time fence or manual firming date is assigned, and to provide information about the corresponding dates. This way, you can easily check which elements have been firmed automatically, because their availability date is before the end of the planning time fence or manual firming date. If you want to adapt the manual firming date for a material, you can also edit it directly from the new row. The changes are immediately reflected in the stock / requirements list.
Capacity Scheduling Board
With this feature, you can now personalize and save a Gantt variant of your app.
This will enable you to save your specific settings for the app every time you want to access it. The settings that can be saved for a personalized variant are the Work Center drop down, Gantt settings, and Work Center settings. These settings are also carried over to the Order Details page and the Manage Operations page.
Capacity Scheduling Table
With this feature, you can now retain the sequence of displayed orders after a realign operation. This can be done by selecting the Realign Sequence of Orders checkbox in the Realign Schedules window.
This functionality is only available when Insert Operation is selected as the Scheduling Control and Future is selected as the Offset. If you are realigning an order with this checkbox selected, to a date where there is already a dispatched order, then the Operation Start for the realigned order will be after the Operation End of the existing dispatched order.

Mass Maintenance of Products (DD)
With this feature, you can edit Product Specific Parameters on a product level by selecting the Edit button.
You can add these columns to the Product details page by clicking the Settings wheel and selecting the columns. The columns that are added are Product Spike Horizon Constant, Product Spike Horizon Multiplier, and Product Spike Threshold Factor.
Schedule Buffer Proposal Calculation
With this feature, you can override the default calculation for Buffer Level Zones using the Buffer Level Zone Update (DD_BUFFERLEVELZONE) Business Add-In.
Once this Business Add-In (BAdI) is activated, you would be able to view the Custom buffer level zone calculation for products section in Step 3 while creating a proposal in the Schedule Buffer Proposal Calculation app. You can also view further details about the Business Add-In (BAdI) adopted proposals in the Manage Buffer Levels app. Check out this short demo video of how it's done:
Convert Actions in Planned Order (OData V4)
With this feature, two new convert actions, namely Convert to Process Order and Convert to Production Order has been provided with the Planned Order (OData V4) API.
You can use the above to convert a Planned Order to a Process Order or a Production Order. This feature will not automatically be available in your system but requires that you activate the feature Convert Actions in Planned Order (OData (V4) (S4HC_FTGL_PLND_ORD_RAP_BO) in the configuration activity Activate Features.
Production Execution & Control
Joule
Joule is now generally available and seamlessly integrated in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition after being in early adoption. SAP’s AI copilot Joule leverages generative AI to empower users to execute their everyday tasks more efficiently and use natural language to express their business need.
The Business Objects in Manufacturing that have been enabled with 2502 are the following:
- Production Order Confirmation
- Production Order
- Production Routing

Schedule ATP Run for Production/Planned Orders
The Schedule ATP Run for Production/Planned Orders app (F3456) has been enhanced and can now also be used for process orders. Therefore, it has been renamed to Schedule Collective Availability Check for Orders (F3456).
Items Based on ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model: Editable Co-Products and other Order Features
Enable modification of a production order or process order using a business object interface of the ABAP RESTful application programming model. You can now create, change, or delete co-products as order items.
Based on ABAP RESTful Programming Model, Post Production Order Confirmations with Goods Movements Using Proposal Data
Enable modification of a production order confirmation as a business object of ABAP RESTful application programming model.
OData API Integration of Production Orders: Adding or Removing Serial Numbers
Enhancement of OData APIs for production orders so that you can enable changing production orders by adding or removing serial numbers.
Quality Management
Manage Certificate Receipts
This feature provides the flexibility to manually create certificate receipts within the Manage Certificate Receipts app, enhancing traceability and ensuring quality documentation is in place, even prior to physical goods receipt.
