On 5 April 2024, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) launched a new Gold-backed currency – Zimbabwe Gold. Following this announcement, on 20 June 2024, ISO 4217 issued amendment 177 announcing the new ZWG currency code for the Zimbabwe Gold currency.
