Background
SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing for planning and scheduling (PP/DS) capability is used to create procurement proposals for in-house production or external procurement to cover product requirements and to optimize and plan the resource schedule and the order dates/times in detail. PP/DS helps a Production Planner to reduce the lead times, to increase on-time delivery performance, or to increase the throughput of products and reduce the stock costs.
However, how would the Production Planner know whether their production plan is really helping them achieve their goals or not?
Depending on the complexity of the business, a production planner could be dealing with hundreds of resources, thousands of products, and thousands of partners and customers. Monitoring the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for complex production plans is critical to ensure that the production plan is feasible and is aligned with business goals.
Introduction
As part of the SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) release 2024.Q4, a new Business Content Package for Line of Business (LoB) titled "Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling" is released. This Business Content Package includes 4 stories -
- Order Details
- Order Operations
- Pegging Relationships (Order to Demand)
- Resource Capacity
The above SAC stories need a live data connection to SAP S/4HANA 2023 system. The four Analytical Queries released as part of SAP S/4HANA 2023 FPS2 serve as the data source for these stories
Once you have successfully created the connection between your SAC tenant and your SAP S/4HANA system, the SAC stories would display the KPIs and charts based on your data.
SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) stories
Order Details
The SAP PP/DS: KPI Monitoring - Order Details story has an Overview and a Details page, and displays important performance indicators about your orders, such as the:
- number of orders
- number of delayed orders
- lead, processing, queue, setup, and wait time
- number of schedule lines
- confirmed, original, receipt, scrap, and total quantity
This story also links to and from the Order Operations and Pegging Relationships (Order to Demand) stories.
Order Operations
The SAP PP/DS: KPI Monitoring - Order Operations story has an Overview page and displays important performance indicators about the operations of your orders, such as the:
- number of operations
- number of sub operations
- gross operation duration
- net operation duration
This story also links to and from the Order Details and Resource Capacity stories.
Pegging Relationships (Order to Demand)
The SAP PP/DS: KPI Monitoring - Pegging Relationships (Order to Demand) story has an Overview and a Details page, and displays important performance indicators about your orders and their pegging relationships, such as the:
- service level percentage
- maximum earliness and lateness time
- total buffer time
- early, on-time, delayed, and total relationships count
- requirement quantity
This story also links to and from the Order Details story.
Resource Capacity
The SAP PP/DS: KPI Monitoring - Resource Capacity story has an Overview and a Details page, and displays important performance indicators about your resources, such as the:
- number of overloaded resources
- capacity utilization
- capacity required for setup, teardown, production, and queue
This story also links to and from the Order Operations story.
Wrapping Up
The SAC stories for KPI Monitoring in PP/DS can be used to track and monitor the KPIs based on your current production plan. You can use these SAC stories "as is", or by fine-tuning them or by using them as reference to create your own SAC stories.
