If you wonder where the ‘General Settings’ disappeared in Web Client, this blog will tell you where to find it.
Starting from SAP Business One 10.0 Feature Pack (FP) 2405, the content of the ‘General Settings’ as you know it in the desktop client, is available in the Web Client, organized by the different modules.
This is part of a bigger restructuring of the Administration menu in Web Client that consolidates the settings and setup to be under the respective modules. The reason behind this change is that in desktop client, the configuration of a module is distributed across many forms in SAP Business One, some under General Settings, some under Company Details and so on - in Web Client, we’ve organized the configuration by SAP Business One modules (e.g., Inventory, Accounting, etc.) so you will find all related configurations in one place.
Terminology wise, Configuration = ‘Settings’ + ‘Setup’, where ‘Settings’ refer to values represented by checkbox, radio button and list of values, while ‘Setup’ refers to records of setup data, such as Item groups.
The configuration model in Web Client is illustrated as follows:
Sub-module is a logical split of the configuration module, related to a specific functionality.
The module and sub-modules are listed on the tree menu and the related Settings/Setup appear both as a menu entry (in the tree) and as the content itself in the main area across one or more tabs.
While in SAP Business One desktop client, Settings and Setup can be in the same window, in Web Client it is separated, i.e., setting and setup are in different menus.
This model is flexible and adjusted according to the module content – a module can have zero or more sub-modules/settings menus/setup menus, depends on the module nature and content richness.
Let’s see some examples – first example is for the ‘Payments and Banking’ module:
As can be seen, this module contains two sub-modules: Banking and Payments. Each contains only Setup records, such as Banks and Credit Cards. In this specific module there are no Settings menus.
A second example is the ‘Sales and Purchasing’ module:
This module contains no sub-modules; it contains three Settings menus and one Setup menu (Freights). The Settings menu is divided to several tabs on the main area for better usability. Many of the ‘General Settings’ items in desktop client that are related to documents are now available under this module.
Since some of the new settings menus in Web Client do not exist in desktop client, we’ve added new entries in the Authorization tree to support the authorizations for these forms.
The configuration menus are searchable (both settings and setup menus) and linkable – you can access the setup/settings page by using the ‘Define New’ option (e.g., from Business Partner master data, jump directly to Business Partner Customer Group to define a new setup record).
To conclude, the new configuration framework in Web Client consolidates all configuration elements under their respective module, offering easier orientation and navigation to configure your solution.
