Welcome to the Discrete Industries in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition 2402 news. For this release, I focus on the enhancements in Just-in-Time (JIT) to Supply to Customer.
Why should you continue to read?
Let's start with the latest innovations.
In the Just-in-Time process there are scenarios where component groups (finished goods) get delayed because of scrap, rework or because the part of an assembly is missing. Therefore, parts of a component group cannot be shipped on the appropriate goods issue date. Now we have a challenge because these component groups are already allocated to a packing group.
To solve this without delaying the process for the whole packing group, the affected component group must be removed/deallocated and delivered in a subsequent delivery because the affected packing group shall be able to be delivered, despite having an empty slot.

Here are the necessary customizing setting that you need to do:

The business case for this new innovation is that the component group material will be first packed in a packing material A and then A is packed further into a packing material B. We at SAP we call this nested Handling Units. If the business owner doesn't want to create nested handling units in the system, but still wants to physical pack them as nested packages, then the business user has the right now to ignore the second step in the system. The advantage is that this simplifies the business users experience in the system for more efficiency. Furthermore, this also allows virtual packing layers without a physical packing material, this is also possible with this.

The usual business case is that the customer sends an update for a JIT call which either contains now a sequence number for the first time (initial JIT call was without one). This is the first business case. A second business case is that the customer sends an updated JIT sequence call, for example, for a production sequence change.
For the first business case, two actions S1_JC_MODI and S1_PG_CREA can be executed as interlinked actions when processing the EDI message from the customer:
Figure 4: Business Case 1 Actions
The second use case can also be processed through interlinked actions including the new action S1_PG_CANC. This action deallocates the JIT call component group from its current one, so executing action S1_PG_CREA would then allocate the JIT call component group again to its new sequence number.
It was already possible to assign serial numbers of serialized JIT call component materials to JIT calls for later reference in the process. Now with the new release, customers can scan the serial number a second time for verification purposes. An example for this business case can be, that action S1_JC_CP (Confirm Production) is executed by the production operator assigning a serial number for the JIT call component material. Afterwards, the warehouse clerk picks and packs the JIT call serialized component material and scans it to verify the right physical object was really taken.
The following app can be used to verify the serial number:

Happy implementation of the new JIT features!
