Service with Advanced Execution process is used for services which require extensive planning and execution. The core characteristics of this process is the integration of the Service, which is responsible for the commercial part of the process, with the Maintenance Management, which is used for planning and execution of the service. In this process Service is also integrated with Financial Accounting which is responsible to ensure an accurate recording of cost and revenue that occurs in the service transaction.
The goal of this blog post to introduce the basics concept and the configuration of integration part which are required for the Service with Advanced Execution scenario.
In the Service with Advanced Execution process both Service and Maintenance Management have specific roles.

The item which is created in Service with Advanced Execution process is called Execution Order Item. The Execution Order Item has the following features:
In order to activate Service with Advanced Execution integrated with Maintenance Management the mapping between Transaction Types and Item Categories used in Service and Order Types used in Maintenance Management has to be specified in Customizing under Service -> Settings for Service Transactions -> Integration -> Plant Maintenance Integration.

By this Customizing activity the mapping between Service with Advanced Execution and Maintenance Management can be set up.
Under Service to Maintenance Management the transaction type and item category used in Service can be mapped to Maintenance Order type used in Maintenance Management. This mapping is used to determine the Maintenance Order Type during the creation of a Maintenance Order corresponding to an execution order item.
Under Maintenance Management to Service the Maintenance Order Type can be mapped to the transaction type and item category used in Service. By this customizing setting the correct transaction type and item category can be determined during the creation of Service Order corresponding to the Maintenance Order.

By this Customizing activity the service priorities can be mapped to the plant maintenance priorities. This mapping is used in integration scenarios such as the creation of Maintenance Orders from Service Orders.

With this Customizing activity is possible to define text type which can be used to transfer information from the Service Order to the Maintenance Order.
The Customizing activity Enable Item-Based Accounting for Service needs to be enabled to allow to use Service with Advanced Execution process.

With this Customizing activity accounting can be activated for Service based on a dedicated cost object. In Item-Based Accounting the service transaction items are recognized as account assignment objects. The costs and revenues are posted to these objects.
By setting the switch to True an accounting based on service transaction items is enabled as dedicated account assignment objects for service transactions.
Unlike the rules of the periodic or milestone billing plan, Ad Hoc Billing enables to define values and dates freely. The feature can be used for the Service with Advanced Execution scenario is called Billing of Remaining Net Value. This feature enables the system to generate a billing request line with all remaining net value of the Execution Order Item automatically.

Service -> Transactions -> Settings for Service Transactions -> Basic Settings -> Billing Plan -> Define Billing Plan Types
By this Customizing activity the billing type Ad Hoc Billing can be defined for Service. By using Ad Hoc Billing different amounts at specified dates can be billed to the customer. The system generates on e billing request line for each billing date.

In this Customizing activity the billing plan type Service: Ad Hoc Billing can be assigned to the item category MSI1 Maint. Service Item which is used in the Maintenance Order.
