In this blog, I am covering the innovations shipped with the Feature Pack Stack 02 for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, that was shipped on October 9 2024. 

After a short summary, my focus will be on the innovations leveraging artificial intelligence. If you want to learn more, please check out the recent release blog from @Chr_Vogler

Introduction: Feature Pack Stack 02 scope

With the latest release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, over 280 innovations have been introduced, enhancing various lines of business and industries. Highlights include:

  • 180+ Innovations for Line of Business
  • 50+ Innovations for Industries
  • And Innovations in localizations and cross topics

Product Highlights

In manufacturing, a renewed production planning and detailed scheduling KPI monitor has been introduced through the intuitive SAP Fiori UX, enhancing visibility and control. Meanwhile, in R&D, there is now an integrated approach to field logistics, seamlessly connecting with project systems for network orders, thereby streamlining processes.

In the finance sector, a harmonized analysis of material cost estimates has been implemented in central finance, allowing for more accurate financial evaluations. For the supply chain, the new implementation of a single exponential smoothing optimized forecast model significantly improves planning quality, ensuring better resource allocation.

In the area of sourcing and procurement, automatic generation of purchase orders from enhanced limit requisition items simplifies the procurement process, saving time and reducing errors. Asset managementhas seen advancements with situation handling capabilities for maintenance task lists and plans, facilitating better maintenance management.

Furthermore, localization efforts have led to enhanced sales and use tax reporting specifically for the United States, ensuring compliance and efficiency. Lastly, in the utilities sector, new analytics options utilizing SAP Datasphere have been introduced, providing robust tools for extracting IS-U data and enhancing data-driven decision-making.

These innovations collectively represent a significant step forward in optimizing operations across various sectors.

As part of the transition to a two-year release cycle, starting with SAP S/4HANA 2023 Cloud Private Edition, SAP will deliver feature packs every six months, simplifying adoption and minimizing the need for major upgrades. This month marks the release of the second feature pack, further enriching the SAP ecosystem.

Artificial Intelligence Innovations

Here I’d like to provide you with an overview of the advancements we are set to deliver in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI), as AI plays a significant role in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, enabling intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and intelligent decision-making capabilities.

Let's start with Asset Management

We are innovating with the use of artificial intelligence to streamline creation and planning of maintenance orders.

The process of creating and planning maintenance orders can be extremely time-consuming and requires the expertise of individuals who have a deep understanding of the machinery and equipment used in manufacturing products or delivering services. Inadequate planning can lead to disruptions in executing planned work, resulting in increased downtime and potential safety or environmental incidents.

The Maintenance Order Recommendation feature, equipped with self-learning capabilities, effectively addresses the above-mentioned business challenge. It utilizes historical data from maintenance orders and notifications to provide planners with templates for handling new maintenance requests. By analyzing and learning from past data, the system can suggest potential orders that align with best practices and have a higher likelihood of success.

The working assumption for this innovation:  the system has historical data to learn contextual information.

Let's now look at Quote-to-Cash.

Let me first mention Sales order monitoring based on textual natural language processing via Joule.

First up, Joule allows you to fetch sales order details seamlessly. Whether you need information at the header level or the item level, Joule has you covered. At the header level, retrieve essential details such as the order number, customer information, order status, delivery date, and payment terms. At the item level, you can access requested quantities, delivery statuses, net amounts, and billing statuses—all at your fingertips!

Next, let's talk about fetching sales order fulfillment issues. Joule empowers you to identify potential hurdles in the sales order fulfillment process. From incomplete data and billing blocks to delivery issues and trade compliance concerns, you’ll have the insights you need to keep your operations running smoothly.

But that’s not all! Joule also enables you to fetch the sales order document flow. Easily access vital information regarding the document sequence, types, status, details, and dependencies involved in your order fulfillment. This feature ensures you stay informed every step of the way.

And for even more convenience, Joule allows you to navigate directly to the Track Sales Order Detailsapp. This feature provides an intuitive interface for tracking your sales orders in real-time.

Moving now to innovations in Transportation Management.

With this FPS02, we introduce our Generative AI feature, which automates the creation of inbound cargo documents using advanced technologies like Large Language Models, DOX, and GPT-3 extraction.

We are transforming the way inbound cargo documents are generated. By leveraging cutting-edge AI technology, we can now automatically create delivery notes, significantly enhancing the efficiency of your operations.

One of the key benefits of this automation is the ability to automate the checking of delivery notes. This technology drastically reduces the need for manual checks at the gate, allowing for a smoother entry process.

By expediting the unloading process, we can flag exceptions in freight orders promptly. This proactive approach allows clerks in the back office to manage exceptions efficiently, speeding up the process for trucks that are free of issues.

The impact is significant! Our solution leads to a substantial reduction in the hours spent on manual checks and waiting times for trucks. This not only accelerates operations but also enhances overall operational efficiency.

Picture 4: GenA in Transportation Management

The second Innovation in Transportation Management is the Conversational planning in the transportation cockpit using natural language.

With this innovative feature, you can propose a comprehensive transportation plan through the Joulesolution. Utilizing advanced Large Language Models (LLMs), our system supports action chains with multiple instructions, making your planning more intuitive and efficient.

The Transportation Cockpit now displays essential planning requirements along with available capacities, ensuring you have all the information you need right at your fingertips. This transparency enhances your ability to make informed decisions quickly.

But we’re not stopping there! We have plans to enable voice-based and chat-based user interactions for providing natural language instructions to LLMs using the Joule software. Imagine giving commands just by speaking or typing, making the planning process even more seamless!

Moving now to Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management.

The Navigational Project Assistant capabilities for the Joule Copilot are designed to enhance user satisfaction by streamlining navigation within the SAP Fiori launchpad. By utilizing natural language processing, the intelligent copilot Joule allows users to easily find and open applications that display project data, making the workflow more efficient.

With this feature, users can directly open projects, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) elements, or networks in the Project Builder or dedicated object pages for display or editing purposes. This capability simplifies the process of accessing critical project information, enabling users to focus on their tasks without unnecessary delays.

The key benefits of these natural language capabilities are an improved user experience, higher satisfaction as well as increased efficiency. Moreover, the efforts for navigation within project systems and master data changes of project system objects are reduced.

Public Sector

With this FPS, Public Sector benefits from the enhancements to our existing intelligent scenario—Risk of Late Payment.  

This feature uses machine learning to predict which customers are the most likely to miss payment deadlines, so collection strategies can be personalized. Additionally, scenario trends and AI explainability can be analyzed using the At-Risk Customer Overview, to help focus on collection success.

Innovations in Application Cross Components

Generative AI for assisted changes and summary of changes in central governance.

The integration of Generative AI for assisted changes and summarizing changes in central governance (classic mode) represents a significant advancement in managing master data. This innovative approach allows users to gain a comprehensive overview of both unsaved and saved changes using natural language, powered by a Large Language Model (LLM).

With this feature, users can easily verify the completeness and correctness of master data changes, ensuring that all modifications are accurate and up to date. Additionally, it provides a brief overview of the changes included in a Master Data Governance (MDG) change request, helping to prevent unnecessary revisions that may arise from incomplete changes. Unlike traditional change documents, this system offers a non-technical summary of changes, making it accessible for all users. Furthermore, it facilitates the final checks by approvers, streamlining the approval process.

In terms of assisted change, this feature allows users to modify master data attributes with minimal effort and in as few steps as possible. By using natural language prompts, users can efficiently apply changes to master data objects, significantly enhancing time efficiency.

Dialog support with the Joule copilot for business partner details with governance integration.

The Joule copilot enables business users to access master data, such as Customer or Supplier details, through natural language queries. This functionality allows for direct retrieval of business partner data without interrupting their current tasks, significantly increasing efficiency.

Additionally, the "Open in App" feature facilitates seamless transitions to master data governance for follow-up actions in a cloud-ready environment, ensuring high effectiveness through immediate intervention and streamlined follow-up processing.

Integration of the Joule copilot to display business partner information.

The last innovation in this area is about the Integration of the Joule copilot to display business partner information.

The Joule copilot facilitates natural language dialogue, allowing users to easily access various business partner data sets, including:

  • Overview
  • Basic Data
  • Bank Accounts
  • Identification Numbers
  • Roles

This feature enhances the user experience by leveraging natural language processing and conversational capabilities, making it easier for users to retrieve business partner details quickly and efficiently. Additionally, the Joule copilot supports a navigational pattern, enabling users to directly access applications like Manage Business Partner Master Data through simple prompts, further streamlining their workflow.
