SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC), launched on February 13th, 2025, is a fully managed Software as a service (SaaS) solution designed to unify and govern all SAP data while seamlessly connecting with third-party data. BDC integrates SAP Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), and BW capabilities, with significant enhancements from Databricks.

Currently many organizations are facing poor data quality as data is stored on various system in structured / unstructured forms and maintaining all data is biggest challenge. The new BDC Platform will unify data from various sources, including SAP and non-SAP systems, to provide a complete view of enterprise data which can help organization to provide insights whenever needed. It will use AI and analytics to help businesses gain insights. The platform will include ready-made data products for different SAP applications.  It will integrate with Databricks for smooth data exchange and advanced data management. Additionally, it will offer a way for SAP Business Warehouse customers to modernize their data systems and move to the cloud.

 Benefits

  • Simplicity: Automates data integration using "Data Products".
  • Out-of-the-Box Insights: Provides pre-built "Insight Apps" for exploring and analysing data.
  • Openness: Can bring in data from both SAP and non-SAP sources.

Transition for Existing Customers

  • Existing Datasphere Customers: Can continue their services without interruption and have the option to transition to BDC over time.
  • BW Customers: SAP recommends evaluating BDC and Datasphere as next-generation alternatives for modern data management.

SAP BW 7.5 Cloud, private edition, provides extended mainstream maintenance until 2030, surpassing the on-premises version which ends in 2027.

SAP BW bridge will be supported until at least 2040.

In future SAP will be providing migration paths for existing BW customers, allowing BW models and reports to be recreated in BDC with minimal disruption.
