In SAP S/4HANA Cloud, maintaining up-to-date exchange rates is essential for accurate financial transactions and reporting. The system offers several methods to manage exchange rates, ranging from manual entry to full automation:

1. Manual Maintenance:

  • Currency Exchange Rates App: This app allows you to manually enter and maintain exchange rates for each currency pair individually. It's suitable for organizations with minimal currency pairs or infrequent rate changes.

2. File Upload:

  • Import Foreign Exchange Rates App: For bulk updates, you can prepare an Excel file with the required exchange rates and upload it using this app. This method is more efficient than manual entry when dealing with multiple currency pairs.

3. Automated Updates via SAP Market Rates Management (MRM):

  • Integration with External Data Providers: SAP offers the Market Rates Management service, which can automatically fetch exchange rates from providers like Refinitiv or the European Central Bank (ECB). This service ensures that your system is consistently updated with the latest rates without manual intervention.
  • Bring Your Own Rates (BYOR): If you have a preferred data source, the BYOR option allows you to upload your own exchange rates into the MRM service, which then distributes them to your SAP S/4HANA Cloud system.

This blog series provides a comprehensive guide to automating exchange rate updates across your SAP landscape. By leveraging BTP, SAP Integration Suite, and SAP Public Cloud, your organization can streamline financial operations and ensure accuracy in currency management.

Footnote

When I set this up a year ago, there was no comprehensive material available that covered the complete setup of automatic integration for exchange rates in SAP Public Cloud using the API and SAP Integration Suite. At that time, I had to navigate multiple fragmented resources to piece together a working solution.

Currently, several blogs and resources have emerged that cover parts of this process. However, I still believe there is value in presenting a fully documented, end-to-end guide. This blog series aims to describe the complete setup of the automatic integration we have successfully prepared and implemented, making it easier for others to replicate the process without the trial-and-error I experienced.

Whether you're setting this up for the first time or refining your existing configuration, I hope this guide proves to be a valuable resource.
