In SAP SD-WM, Outbound Delivery is created when goods are ready to be shipped to a customer against a Sales Order. Normally, all quantities requested are picked, packed, and posted. However, in real-world scenarios, full quantity might not be available (due to stock issues, damage, etc.), and the business may decide to ship only the available quantity and close the delivery.
This process is known as Force Closing an Outbound Delivery — where the remaining unpicked quantity is not expected to be shipped later, and the delivery is closed with only the picked stock.
Step by Step-by-Step Process Explanation
Create a Sales Order (e.g., Customer: 26, Qty: 5 EA)
Reference the Sales Order to create Outbound Delivery (e.g., Delivery No: 80000169)
Delivery Qty: 5 EA
Outbound Delivery Created 80000169.
Tcode: LT03
Alternative: From the Outbound delivery screen via the menu:
Subsequent Functions → Create Transfer Order
Enter partial quantity (e.g., 2 EA), and provide Source Bin Details
Click on Yes and then Click on Posting to save the Transfer order
Confirm the picked qty (e.g., 2 EA)
Pick status will be updated as Partially Picked
For Partial Qty pick status will be updated as C, confirmed

Navigate to delivery and choose:
Edit: "Copy Picked Quantity as Delivery Quantity"
This updates:
Delivery Qty = Picked Qty (e.g., 2 EA)
WM Pick Status = C (Confirmed)
Tcode: Still in VL02N, Click Post Goods Issue
The system posts the material movement and updates inventory.
Tcode: VL03N → Menu: Document Flow
