Screenshot_20230417-202043.pngAs Enterprise Architects, it is crucial we have a comprehensive understanding of the key mindsets that CEOs possess to drive successful organizations. Carolyn Dewar, Scott Keller, and Vikram Malhotra's book "CEO Excellence" provides valuable insights into the key mindsets that the best CEOs have to drive organizational success.  Not only do Enterprise Architects need to understand these mindsets, but they also need cultivate and learn them.

Firstly, the book highlights the importance of the Direction-Setting mindset, which is crucial for CEOs to define and communicate their organization's bold vision, goals, and objectives.  In this quest, the enterprise architects, must also be able to communicate the not only organization's vision, goals, and objectives, but must also be able to communicate effectively how the bold architecture models and emerging technologies align to those vision, goals, and objectives. Be Bold.

Secondly, the book emphasizes Organization Alignment mindset, to ensure that CEOs organization's various functions and departments are aligned towards achieving the organization's overall goals. Enterprise Architects play a critical role in this regard by developing an integrated view of the organization's various functions, opportunities for optimization, and architecture in alignment to the business strategy.  EAs engage this mindset to support the alignment of stakeholders to the organization’s strategy. Stay the course.

Thirdly, is the importance of the Mobilizing Leaders mindset, where CEOs inspire and motivate their employees towards achieving the organization's goals.  Enterprise Architects must have a comprehensive understanding of the organization, workforce, roles, and responsibilities to support the development of an effective communication and engagement strategy.  It also means inspiring and motivating an enterprise architecture team together to build a high performing team that drives an effective strategy execution.

Fourthly, is Stakeholder Connection mindset, which is crucial for CEOs to build and maintain strong relationships with the organization's key stakeholders. Enterprise Architects must do the same be able to engage with senior executives and others to communicate the value, gain buy-in, and secure funding and support for the key stakeholders' needs and expectations.

Finally, the book discusses Personal Effectiveness mindset, when CEOs must maintain their overall well-being and effectiveness in their roles. An Enterprise Architect must also have strong personal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, building relationships, and working collaboratively with others. Managing their own time and priorities effectively and being able to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment.

In conclusion, "CEO Excellence" provides valuable insights into the key mindsets that CEOs must possess to drive successful organizations. As Enterprise Architects, we can play a critical role in supporting CEOs in developing and maintaining these key mindsets, thereby contributing to the overall success of the organization.
