UPDATE: This Techtoberfest Fun Friday event is now officially over - as you may remember (from the description below) we left this open the entire week, ending Sunday 7 October in whatever timezone you are. So as now that date has officially passed us by, we have counted up all the entries and badges will be awarded within the week. Thank you so much for all the great pictures! It was interesting to see everyone's tech setup!
Last week was all about pets, this week is all about tech setups! Use this opportunity to show off your coding setup. This could be your desk, office, or even your favorite development tools (I personally want to see everyone’s favorite VS Code extensions).
To participate, you only need to complete the following steps.
Step 1: Take a picture or screenshot of your development setup. This could be your desk with your favorite knickknacks, your office and how you arrange your room for various purposes, your computer screen showing how you arrange your windows for optimal coding efficiency, or even just your favorite coding extensions or tools that help you develop better code.
Step 2: Post that picture in the comments of this discussion post before EOD October 6th. If you’ve already posted the picture elsewhere, feel free to link that in the comments.
Step 3 (optional): Peruse the rest of the pictures to get ideas on how you might want to update your own setup.
Be as creative or relaxed as you want, the only thing that’s important is that you have fun.
Personally, I like to have a mobile setup so I can work from whichever seat the wind blows me to that day. I went ahead and shared four of my favorite VS Code extensions in the comments below so check that out if you need some inspiration.
Note: You are not restricted to only post during Friday, October 4th. This is open the entire second week of Devtoberfest, from September 30th through October 6th. We will award points and badges after that time.
Have fun and show us how you code!

I want to share some of my favorite VS Code extensions. Toggle Quotes is so I can easily toggle between the different quotes “ ‘ `, TODO Highlight, because I like to write todos as I code and unless they are highly visible, I will accidentally push them to production, Trailing Spaces so I can see any extra whitespaces after the ends of lines because I have a cat who will walk on my keyboard and add 15 spaces at the end of a line without me knowing, and Color Highlight because I am a frontend developer who isn’t good enough to know what color the random 6 digit hex code is.

I use VS Code most of the time. I use many extensions like GIT, Prettier-Code formatter, Amazon Q, Postman, TODO Highlight and Trailing Spaces, Tailwind CSS IntelliSense etc.

Hello everyone!
I wanted to share with you a picture of my humble setup. It's not the most extravagant, but it's where the magic of coding happens. 🤓
In my space, I use custom GPTs that are like having a team of virtual assistants ready to help me with development. Sometimes I feel like the keyboard types by itself! 🧞♂️
Of the VS Code tools, Prettier is the one I use the most, keeping my code more organized than my own desk (which isn't saying much 🙈).
Greetings from Bolivia!

I would like to show-off my keyboard setup, since I care a lot about keyboard ergonomics. The picture shows a split keyboard, mounted on two upside-down laptop mounts, such that it is positioned left and right to your lap, in an angle of perhaps 75 degrees. This is an extremely comfortable typing position (but you need to know your keyboard layout by hard). Note the black mini touch pad I mounted just above the right-hand keyboard, so I only rarely have to reach for the touch pad in the middle. If you use your mouse a lot, this is not for you.
I do almost everything with the keyboard alone. The (Mac) software tools I use for this purpose are homerow and Better Touch Tool (BTT). With BTT, I define shortcuts that can bring to front each app that I use on a day-to-day basis. This way, I don't use virtual desktops, since I can address every app directly. To understand how homerow works, visit their site. (In short, homerow is for the desktop what vimium is for the browser.)
These SW tools are only available for Mac, but vimium is available as browser plugin on every operating system.

I like the industrial flair of the setup, however I've never imagined an Apple users workplace would look like this 😂

😂nice idea, but I have to admit that I muted the Petoberfest channel to reduce the level of distraction.

I recently tried VS Code to create tutorial for Devtoberfest and @eshrinivasan helped with this extension to preview the UI before pushing to Q or Prod. I'm glad to know about this which avoids lots of commits...

Here’s a glimpse of my workspace, where I spend countless hours—whether I’m engaged in lively conversations, sharing a laugh, or reflecting on more serious moments. This photo captures the essence and setup of my professional environment.
Thanks
Vishala.

Basic but definitely gets the job done. Looking forward to the upcoming learning this week.

My modest setup involves an additional monitor, external keyboard and mouse. There is one additional eye monitoring 24/7 to ensure my desk remains safe even when I am not around 🙂

My desk 🙂
As you can see, music during developing is important to me. Even more important than a second screen 😄
Although this is not Petoberfest, two trustworthy debugger ducks sit under my screen.
My deskmat's colors don't quite fit the rest, but it's also only a temporary old one I had put there so my keyboard isn't that loud - I recently switched to my first mechanical one.

Favorite plugin, probably rest-client, but PlatformIO gets a lot of use.

This is my current home office setup. I've just recently upgraded the screen from HP Z 27" to Phillips 40" 5k2k. Screen could be a bit brighter, but overall it's fantastic with lots of screen estate and due to the integrated hub a very clean setup.
Mic/Speakers are okay in the monitor, great in the MacBook, but superb in the Sony XM5 headset.
