UPDATE: This Spooktoberfest Fun Friday event is now officially over - as you may remember (from the description below) we left this open the entire week, ending Sunday 27 October in whatever timezone you are. So as now that date has officially passed us by, we have counted up all the entries and badges will be awarded within the week. Thank you so much for all the great pictures! It was great to see everyone’s spooky spirit!
For Week 4 of Devtoberfest, it’s Spooktoberfest! That means it’s time to share your favorite spooky tech stories, decorations, or costumes!
To participate, you only need to complete the following steps.
Step 1: You can do either one or all of the following: write about a spooky tech story, take a picture of some spooky decorations, or take a picture of you in a costume. The stories can be about anything that leans spooky, like weird bugs that happened for incredibly strange reasons, that time you saw a ghost in the server room, or a time your laptop crashed right after threatening it. The pictures can be of anything spooky, Halloween, or fall related, like house décor or someone in a costume (pets included!). This rule isn’t strict so interpret it as creatively as you’d like!
Step 2: Post your spooky material in the comments of this discussion post before EOD October 27th. If you’ve already posted your material elsewhere, feel free to link that in the comments.
Step 3 (optional): Check out the rest of the comments to get in that spooky mood for October 31st!
Be as creative or relaxed as you want. The only important thing is that you have fun.
For my own decorations, I have this shelving behind my desk that I like to decorate for meetings when I turn on my camera. For October, I decorated by shelves with a fall/Halloween theme. I like to think it helps get me and others into the holiday spirit.
I made those dino chicken nuggets myself and I am very proud of them
Note: You are not restricted to post this only during Friday, October 25th. This is open the entire third week of Devtoberfest, from October 21st through October 27th. We will award points and badges after that time.
Have fun and let’s all get into that spooky spirit!

I was in one of my first SAP implementations, right at the moment of the much-anticipated GO-LIVE. 😬 The nerves were on edge, but there was also a collective confidence that everything was meticulously calculated; after all, we had performed all the necessary tests. ✅
We had transported everything to production, and everything seemed to be running smoothly. 🚀 All that was left for us consultants was to provide support, and the only module left to close was SD. The users were loading invoices one by one, migrating from their old and obsolete system to SAP. Everything was going well... until that fateful day. 😱
One morning, the HR consultant approached me and said she needed me to transport an OT (Order of Transport) to PRD. Without thinking twice and wanting to be efficient, I obediently performed the transport. 🖥️👍
Two minutes later, the calm atmosphere of the office transformed into chaos. I heard frantic voices saying that the system wasn't working, errors were appearing, and data had disappeared. 😵 I remained silent, my stomach in knots.
We began to frantically review what had happened, but no one understood what was going on. After intense investigation, we discovered the chilling truth: the OT I had transported was terrifying. 👻 It had replaced all the company configuration in the FI module, wiping out the initial Finance setup. 💥
Panic took hold of me. 😨 I had only transported one OT... How could I have caused such a disaster?? 😩
Fortunately, after hours of work and configuration adjustments, we managed to solve the problem. 🛠️ Half a day of work was lost aligning the invoices that were being processed from the old system to the new one, but in the end, the system returned to normal. 😌
Since then, every time I'm asked to transport an OT, I double and triple-check what I'm transporting. 🔍 I learned that in the SAP world, even the simplest action can have unexpected consequences. ⚠️
In the end, I survived to tell the tale and continue in the SAP world... hoping it will be the first and last terrifying story... 👻🎃

🎃 Spooky memories of SAP Web IDE 🎃
Back in the day, when everything moved slower than a spider spinning its web, SAP Web IDE was the tool we depended on—waiting for that loading screen to finish felt like an eternity!
Every Halloween, they’d throw in some spooky flair a jack-o-lantern here, a ghost there
But those loading bars? They were still creeping along like they were haunted!
Beware, brave developers... Once you entered, you might never come out!

1-1.5 years after starting my Abap career, I wrote a program that sent payrolls to employees in a customer system. I basically copied the program from another system and made some adaptations. Since I did not see a problem in running the program for the test user, I sent it to the test. The tester did not test multiple tests and moved it to the live system. In this process, the customer also gave approval without testing and ran it for all users in the live system. The payroll of some users went to other users. When the problem arose, the customer called me directly and reproached me. I was frozen at that moment. I couldn't answer, I just listened and hung up. Then I checked the code again and again, but I still couldn't see an error. There were the necessary clear and refresh conditions in the loop. Then I told someone more senior than me and asked for support. He directly said the name of the function and said, did you use this? I said yes. Then he said that there is a bug in that standard function, it does not clear when multiple runs. I didn't know whether to be happy or sad for a moment, but I couldn't get rid of the effect for a long time. Later, whenever I use a loop, I immediately add clear and refresh and double validate before or after writing the code. Maybe I wasn't guilty of anything, I did the job given to me completely, but it upset me very much that people saw me as JR and blamed me to save their own careers. Unfortunately, although many years have passed, I still cannot forget this case.

Then it looks even spookier

I remember during my early days in my career, I was working in a project go-live hypercare overnight from my home. A situation came up, where the all the service entry sheet creation failed in the system. A sev P1 was raised. I was trying too hard to find out the bug. My project manager was calling me to give update in every 15 minutes. I was getting pulled into war room meeting to give update every half an hour. My mailbox is bombarding with mails from all managers, partners and beyond. To the worst, there was a lightning outside and my screen became black. I screamed with fear.
Finally I realized that I felt asleep at my desk and completely sweat out. Perhaps my brain was still firefighting with production support even in my dream!

During an intense late-night support shift, I was working from home, alone and exhausted. Around 2 a.m., I was knee-deep in code trying to resolve a Order creation to delivery creation E2E flow with EWM and STM team issue when suddenly my SAP GUI froze. I thought it was just a glitch, so I restarted, but then I noticed something strange: all my screens turned black except for a single blinking cursor on my main monitor. Then, out of nowhere, lines of code started appearing, not mine, but a messy, ancient-looking script I didn’t recognize.
I tried to disconnect, but my mouse wouldn’t respond. Suddenly, my speakers crackled, and a whispering voice emerged, saying, *“You’re working too late…”* Frantic, I yanked the power cord. When everything went dark, I heard a single loud knock on my door.
The next morning, I was rattled and unsure if it was a dream, but when I logged back in, I found an error log with a timestamp from 2:15 a.m. reading: *"Session Terminated."*

I am Mexican, and I would like to share with you our beautiful tradition, On November 1st and 2nd, we celebrate filled with love and color: Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) !!!. It’s a special time to honor and remember our loved ones who have passed but remain alive in our hearts. 🕯️🕯️
We create altars with offerings: marigold flowers, candles, sugar skulls, pan de muerto, and the favorite foods of those we are honoring. 💀🥀
We also made sweets of sugar in a lot of figures and shapes, we call them Alfeñiques
I decorate my desk like this, the tiny paints were made by me, I love this Mexican tradition!! 🥰🥰🥰
we also decorate the streets, and we have lively street festivals, especially popular in cities like Guanajuato, Mexico. Groups of musicians, often mariachis or estudiantinas (traditional student bands), lead people through narrow streets and alleys, playing music, singing, and telling stories. 🎶💃🎤💀
hope you have enjoyed the post; this tradition reminds us that death is part of life’s cycle and that every memory keeps their essence alive. 🥰💀

It’s a dark, spooky office with fog everywhere, and the SAP logo is glowing all weird and greenish-blue. There are pumpkins with techy carvings, like gears and stuff, just sitting around. Cobwebs are all over the desks and computers, and it feels like maybe a ghost works there! There’s even a few bats flying around. It’s like Halloween and a computer lab mashed together, but kinda creepy and cool at the same time!
