SAP for product information management usage in CMS

Hi SAP Community,

I hope you're all doing well!

I'm a Marketing Manager with limited SAP knowledge and I've been grappling with a challenge that I believe the SAP experts here can help me with. I'm looking to create a data structure within SAP that will enable us to generate exports for Contao CMS.

Here's the situation: Our company specializes in selling highly specialized tools. Let's use hypothetical products A1, A2, and A3 as examples. Initially, A1 is applicable for X, Y, and Z, A2 is for S and T, and A3 is applicable for S and Z. However, product applicability can change over time. For instance, after some modifications, A3 might become applicable to S, X, and Z.

What I'm seeking is a method to easily determine which products are applicable to a specific criterion, for example, application X. This data structure should serve as the foundation for our searchable product finder and simplify the creation of catalogues, among other tasks.

I hope this clarifies the solution I'm in search of. I eagerly await your insights and suggestions on how to achieve this within SAP.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Good morning Maurice!

Thanks for your inquiry. Usually, within SAP S/4HANA or SAP ERP, you would categorize your products/materials with SAP Classification, meaning classes and characteristics which will carry the attributes of applicability, and their predefined or manually maintainable values. Classification search will then allow for easy search of the products you are looking for. I am not sure though how early in the product lifecycle you want to be able to maintain these attributes, or be able to use them. But generally classification can be added to a material master at any point in time.

Hope this helps, Ulf.

Hey Ulf,

Thanks for your response! It seems like this could be exactly what I've been looking for. I'll definitely explore this further. Regarding the product lifecycle, the products are developped with a certain applicability in mind (say S,T,Z) on customer request we additionaly validate other usecases too (than S,T,Z and X). So, when the material is integrated into SAP, it's crucial to keep these attributes up to date.

I also appreciate the link you provided!

Wishing you a fantastic rest of the week!

Maurice
