Workflow formula not working with change in currency

Hi SAP experts,

I am using workflow rules to do a sum of a set of amount fields and add that total amount in another custom field (field update> formula)- all these fields are set to default to CAD. When the user selects USD in the amount fields and inputs a value- the custom field doesnt return any value and just returns blank. Any advice on how to account for both the currencies in the workflow rule - if amounts are in CAD - return value in CAD, if USD then return value in USD?
