why we are using grouping handlers in datahub? what is the grouping it has to be done?

i am trying to understand the grouping handlers, have gone through the hybris documents but not able to figure it out. why do we need grouping handlers? in which scenario we are using this grouping handlers? how grouping is happens, could some one please explains about things.

Thanks for the response, we have already gone through the hybris document i mentioned same in the description as well but couldn't able ti figure it out clearly. what are all the ITEMS it used to group, how we map those in canonical item could you please elaborate it.
